New York Yankees: Manny Banuelos Update

Thanks to the YES Network, the New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox game was blacked out in New York despite being advertised to be showing on ESPN2.

This was ridiculous of YES to blackout one of the most relevant games of Spring Training and one that fans were very excited to watch. YES had the Nets vs. Celtics game on and ESPN ran SportsCenter for two straight hours.

So, Yankee fans missed watching prospect Manny Banuelos pitch against Boston’s A-line-up. This was announced last yesterday after slated starter Sergio Mitre couldn’t go due to stiffness in his left oblique. The injury is not of any concern according to the Yankees.

Skipper Joe Girardi decided to start Banuelos in place of Mitre, which means the Yankees have faith in this kid. Banuelos is  something for fans to definetly be excited about, as the just turned 20-year-old has been impressing throughout Spring Training.

Will we see Banuelos in the Bronx during 2011?

Knowing the Yankees it would be doubtful because of he needs more innings in the minors.  Post-All-Star break it would not surprise me if that sentiment changes because Banuelos is that talented and keeping him in the minors is wasting his talents.

Since I could not watch the game here is the NY Post writer Brian Costello’s article of how Banuelos outing went.

Yankees prospect Banuelos hangs tough vs. Red Sox regulars

FORT MYERS, Fla. — With all the hype around Manuel Banuelos, you expected the Yankees prospect to levitate to the mound, turn the water in the cooler into wine and throw lightning bolts from his left hand against the Red Sox last night.
He didn’t quite do all that, but Banuelos was impressive in his first start of the spring. The 20-year-old left-hander struggled with his control, but showed poise when he got into jams and gave glimpses of a filthy fastball and a nasty changeup. He allowed two hits in 2 2/3 shutout innings, striking out two and walking three.

NFL Playoffs: Who Dat Seahawks? Seattle Dethrones New Orleans Saints

The first game of the NFL playoffs was a classic David vs. Goliath.

The 7-9 Seattle Seahawks were playing host to the reigning champion New Orleans Saints.

The spread on the game favored the Saints to win by 10 or 10.5 points. That was no shocker, though 10 points is a large margin.

One fact was that New Orleans was the clearly the better team, as it was their game to lose—and suffer defeat they did.

From beginning to end, the Saints missed opportunities to score points and were inefficient in tackling assignments.

Even when the Saints scored easily to start the game, the Seahawks fought right back.

Seattle never stopped putting up points the whole game, so when the Saints finally got it together it was too late to catch up to the Seahawks’ 34 points.

So, is this upset based on the underdog having more heart? Or do you consider the inconsistency displayed this NFL season becoming the norm? Continue reading ‘NFL Playoffs: Who Dat Seahawks? Seattle Dethrones New Orleans Saints’ »

ESPNW: A Sincere Opinion From A ‘W’ About New ESPN For Women

On December 6, 2010, ESPNW was introduced, as a website for women who are passionate sports fans and athletes.

In essence, it is the women’s version of ESPN.

As a female sports blogger, I’ve been asked for my opinion numerous times about ESPNW, so now I will share it.

The sports world has always been predominantly male in all aspects. Women were not supposed to be passionate sports fans because the gender divide was so vast.

Even as women have risen in most industries over the last two decades, the sports industry did not budge.

Then the Internet came along, it opened a new door for women in sports because it allows anyone to express their opinion without being prejudged by gender.

In a sense, it shielded us from gender discrimination, and in turn women utilized the opportunity and have taken major strides because of it.

Now women are hosting Sportscenter, sitting at round tables, writing columns and—like myself—blogging about sports right along side men.

Here are my two reasons why ESPNW is not going to work—

  1. Professional Women’s Sports are boring in comparison to men’s. Literally, the WNBA is about as fun to watch as paint drying. The only female sports that I watch are tennis and the Olympics, which is minimal anyway. So, the thought of a website dedicated to the female fan and athlete seems senseless considering the huge lack of interest. What drives me nuts is that—because I am female—other women get quite upset that I have zero interest in writing about our my own sex. Why do I have to like female sports? The fact is, the skill level and overall talent doesn’t compare to the male athlete, nor will it ever. Continue reading ‘ESPNW: A Sincere Opinion From A ‘W’ About New ESPN For Women’ »

ESPN: Every Sports Prejudice News

The Tampa Bay Rays are the best team in baseball, and it is the best start in the franchise’s history.

The above is the media buzz of the baseball field now. Thanks to ESPN, who has convinced every expert into thinking the Rays are the best team in baseball.

You want sunglasses to shield BBT because it is all Rays right now.

This makes perfect sense, right….please read the ESPN mock outlook below:

How many teams would not call for that tone after missing the playoffs in 2009. Do not forget the Rays also broke a 12 year-long franchise record for the best April ever.

Four whole weeks is plenty of time for a team to overcome a decade long of below .500 baseball.

Let’s not belittle the Rays did losing the World Series in 2008 and the first-time the ball-club ever made the postseason in the organization’s history. Can everyone read R-E-C-O-R-D, again?

The Rays loss, to the obviously better Philadelphia Phillies, in 2008, did open a door for them to make a clear statement from day one the following season as a team in contention. A company that was about to stay and that the AL East was now a three-team division.

The fact is reputations get formed in reverse, for the Rays or any other team. This is when a player’s real feelings, spirit and attitude get most vulnerable, so not giving up gets respect.

The dome is the Rays home, known as the Trop, short for Tropicana Field. The Trop is just an annoying bubble to play any sport inside.

Let’s give credit to the swarms of fans who live in Tampa Bay, Florida who pack the Trop when the Red Sox, Mets or Yankees are in town. Continue reading ‘ESPN: Every Sports Prejudice News’ »

Hooked On A Feeling…..

First place arouses everyone from the fans to the bat boys of the team at the top. Its a reminder why being the paramount, the peek at the mountain’s top that everyone is climbing towards and the reason a player became a pro just cause of a love for baseball in the first place. I guess that answers why it is such a unmistakable high.

I hate how first place makes the lows, ruts or the inevitable setbacks life can bring so much harder to absorb because you wonder how you ever could have let go of that awesome feeling that seemed to leave as fast as it come.
I can’t explain it very well but any one with a passion for a sports team knows what I am referring too.
  • You follow these athletes as if you all are BFF’s since childhood.
  • Your mood is based on if last night’s game was a win or loss.
  • You will debate why you’re reasons are the obvious ones like a litigator in a courtroom and really thinking that ‘your way or the highway.’
  • You actually listen to Mike (miss you Maddog) more intently then the actual news on CNN or that it is for that matter the only news.
  • When you set your cable box’s favorite channel to ESPN so when you hit power its the familiar voices of SportsCenter, or the PTI guys or my fav Jim Rome is Burning.
  • You love the competition of sports in general and crave it like an addict.

I truly think of my Yankees and my Giants (nfl) like a part of my family. As crazy as it sounds to some people to be so attached to a team that have no idea who the hell I am is total bullshit. Maybe Posada doesn’t wave to me as he walks out with Andy from the outfield in the minutes before the first inning or that I will never text with Cano, Jeter Mariano or anyone of the players about anything but I can promise anyone or everyone one thing.

‘The team needs the fans just as much as the fans need the team!! First place is more stressful for both parties involved…and as a Yankee‘s fan this season it means more.’ Continue reading ‘Hooked On A Feeling…..’ »
