New York Yankees Trade Rumors: Messiah Going To The Bay

Matt Cain of the San Francisco Giants warming ...

The 2010 World Series Champs, the San Francisco Giants proved what I knew to be already true, that last season was based more on luck.

The defending WS Giants didn’t even make the playoffs, or put up much of a challenge. If blaming it on injuries is a workable excuse in San Francisco, than so be it but plenty of teams suffer injuries and battle on.

Giants GM Brian Sabean did nothing in the off-season, unless letting Edgar Rentería walk and replacing him with a super-veteran juicer named Miguel Tejada was acceptable. Or the desperado late trade for Mets Carlos Beltron, which was just too little, too late.

Fact is the Giants need bats and by not adding a bat or two to back-up a superb pitching staff is just irresponsible. The season after winning the World Series a team’s focus should be defending it, not about Showtime reality TV Shows.

Even getting back a healthy Buster Posey is hands down not enough to contend, as baseball is a team sport and should not be contingent upon one player.

So, with the Giants back to not making the playoffs again, Sabean has a job to do and it has been rumored that obtaining New York Yankees prospect Jesus Montero might be the best move.

The New York Daily news reported that the Giants could turn the hot-hitting Yankee catching prospect into a first baseman, as they already have Posey to catch and the Giants need someone with Montero’s power.

So, whom would the Yankees get in return for their Messiah?

Allegedly, pitcher Matt Cain’s name has been tossed around.

Since MLB trade with other teams cannot legally happen until two weeks after the World Series ends, who knows if this has much truth behind it.

It is not farfetched to think that this might be the Giants or Yankees plan, as Montero can hit the heck out of the ball and Cain can pitch the same.

Maybe Giants fans are okay with riding high off last year’s coincidence.

Whether this deal is in either clubs best interests is a whole different story and if this came to surface, I will detail the move ASAP.

Who knows whether this is gossip or truth…. only time will tell; but it is something to watch or at least keep your eye on because with the depth in the Yankees farm system, my guess is Montero will be traded for an arm before the 2012 season.

Ironically, when Posey went down for the season, I suggested this possibility of Montero for a Giants pitcher trade in MLB Trade Rumors: Yankees Jesus Montero To Savior Of Giants Season.

I have to say that I hope this does not take place. I want to see a YOUNG player evolve like Jeter, Posada and Mo did. Yes, we need a pitcher but trade Romine or Dellin Betances (Sp?). Let Jesus become a great right handed slugger for the Yankees.

PS. I will never understand why he didn't play more in the ALDS especially when Martin was sent to bat with the bases loaded. I would have pinch hit Montero for him. Defensively, we may have lost something but we needed the runs.

Who wrote this trash?????? Ummmm…. No. Cain stays put

First off, based on playoff performance Montero produced less than Posada or Martin did. Likely Jorge is finished with Yanks, Martin remains the starter right now and looks like Montero's the backup, it's not likely Cervelli will remain with team either. Yanks need to let CC walk if he's expecting a huge payment-age is against him remaining at top of game, time to bring in younger starters like Nova. Who couldn't help but like Tigers' Shoerzer–that's the type pitchers needed–young, hungry. Time to recruit replacements for Arod, Jeter–likely one or other will become DH on regular basis in next year or two based on performance and mobility. Yanks first focus should be on starting pitching, that's the position that keeps them from Series titles.

SF Giants need power and Montero is young and without question he can hit the heck out of the ball. SFG should run out and get Prince Fielder or Albert Pujols….but for whether reason GM Sabean won't do that b/c they will have to pay big bucks, for many years. SFG would probably rather trade for a young prospect like Montero. The Yankees price will be high, and it should be so the deal might never get past stage one.

"last season was based more on luck" ?

"If blaming it on injuries is a workable excuse in San Francisco, than so be it" ?

"Maybe Giants fans are okay with riding high off last year’s coincidence" ?

    …Somebody's bitter.

    • Kate says:

Not bitter…just my opinion. I didn't think the Giants were the best team in 2010; the bats got hot at the right time but they did get lucky.

The defending champions should at least make the postseason…..don't you think??
