The New York Yankees are never short on drama, but this season might take the cake.
Just look at the last 48 hours:
- Yankees beat the Toronto Blue Jays for the second night in a row, 6-4.
- Organization’s top prospect Mason Williams got a DUI at 3am. Mason passed the blood alcohol test but failed the road test, can anyone say lightweight?
- Catcher Francisco Cervelli broke his hand and according to the New York Times he will have surgery on it today; out for about two months.
- Starter Ivan Nova couldn’t pitch past the third inning last night due to elbow pain. Nova was sent for an MRI, results TBD but don’t be surprised if it is Tommy John.
Up next for the Yankees…. putting Kevin Youkilis on the 15 day DL.
Youkilis sat for a sixth straight game due to a back injury that was supposed to be healed already according to the Yankees front office.
NorthJersey.com reported that Youkilis hasn’t had any tests down on his back yet.
Everyone knows that since 2011, Youkilis has been sidelined many times because of his back so this was almost inevitable.
I expect Youkilis to officially join Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, Mark Teixeira and Curtis Granderson on the DL sometime today or tomorrow for the hopefully just 15-days.
As the great Vince Lombardi famously said, “It’s not whether you get knocked down, it’s whether you get up.”
The bottom line here is how much more can one team endure?
Fans can just hope that the Yankees won’t be the answer to that question this season.
It seems about time for the Yankees to break up with the bad luck.
