Yankees Rumors: Cardinals Carlos Beltran wearing a Derek Jeter jersey in St Louis

Yes…I saw Carlos Beltran wearing a New York Yankees getting off a bus in St. Louis after losing World Series Game 4, 4-2 to the Boston Red Sox, and tying up the series 2-2.

Carlos Beltran in my dream...and in Yankees pinstripes.

Carlos Beltran in my dream…and in Yankees pinstripes.

To my utter shock, the St. Louis Cardinal postseason star, and ex-New York Met was donning the pinstripes with the Captain Derek Jeter’s #2 on the back.

It was an authentic Yankees jersey too as I felt it when I gave Beltran a hug.

The alarming part of the whole thing was that his Cardinals teammates were right behind him and didn’t seem to blink.

But then I woke up.

This was no ordinary dream, as it was one of those messed up ones that felt real.

Beltran couldn’t have been nicer, as he welcomed me with open arms, but the weird thing is neither of us spoke. But after the hug, we did engage in a quick nod that barked see you next year.

In the dream I was wearing a numberless Cardinals jersey, which I guess is considered acceptable considering their opponent is the Boston Red Sox.

Still, as a true-blooded Yankees fan I cannot imagine wearing another team’s jersey consciously, ever.

Regardless, rumors have swirled and according to the New York Daily News Mark Feinsand, Beltran, and the Yankees have mutual interest in each other.

Question now is whether Beltran would be a good fit for the Yankees?

Beltran is a switch hitting, center fielder that would hit the snot out of the ball in the bandbox of Yankee Stadium.

Over the past two seasons, Beltran has posted 56 homers, and the rest of his batting stats since 2012 are all positive. Especially seeing how his strikeout numbers have dropped this season.

But are there reasons the Yankees should not sign Beltran this off-season?

Yes, and two in particular stand out to me.

1) Beltran turns 37-years old next April, and do you think the Yankees need to ink any more players north of 35?

Well, I do not as the Yankees already have enough veterans on their active roster to host a second Old-Timers Day.

Every off-season the age concern is like a broken record in the Bronx.

Look if the Yankees can somehow get dump Vernon Wells, Beltran could make a great platoon with Ichiro Suzuki in right field.

And with Brett Gardner and Curtis Granderson’s injury histories, having Beltran on reserve is about the best any team could ask for.

2) Is the Yankees interest in Beltran suggesting no more Granderson?

The Grandyman is a free agent this off-season, and the Yankees already have overcrowded outfield so where would Beltran really fit?

The Yankees already have Wells, Ichiro, Alfonso Soriano and Brett Gardner next season.

And dare I mention outfielding prospects Mason Williams, Tyler Austin and Slade Heathcott. None of the three had great 2013 seasons, but the potential is supposedly there if groomed correctly. So counting on these homegrown guys in the future is a big risk.

See I think the Yankees can re-sign Granderson to a three-year deal. Reality is his stock dropped after suffering two broken hands and was on the DL for the majority of 2013 season.

Grandy can rake and is five-years younger than Beltran, which has to be factored in big time.

Also, it is not likely Beltran will entertain any one-year offers even for the Yankees when he can get two to three years elsewhere.

The bottom line is that even though Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright and myself saw the Yankees and Beltran in are sleep, the interest is just a rumor, at least for now.
