Yankees vs. Rays: Will CC lead Bombers to sweep

The New York Yankees are playing outstanding baseball right now, as the Bombers are finally drumming on all cylinders.

Pitcher Ivan Nova is the third Yankees starter in a row to dominate the opposing bats, as the he lead the team to a 4-1 start and pitched into the ninth inning. The Yankee bats did enough to secure the win.

The Bombers will be going for the sweep tonight behind ace CC Sabathia who will take the hill against the Rays ace David Price.

This is a familiar battle for both AL East teams who face each other 18-times a season, but that doesn’t change that these are two of the best pitchers in MLB.

Both are dominate lefties that each have seven wins on the season.

The only thing I can guarantee about this match-up is that it will be a battle in the Bronx for sure.

DAVID PRICE (7-3, 2.44):

Price has been solid vs. the Yankees in his career:

DAVID PRICE vs. NYY - Career Stats

Price has faced Sabathia six times in his career and has only lost once back on May 10, 2012 at Yankee Stadium. It was one of Prices worst outings ever, giving up 11 hits, five earned runs and couldn’t get threw the seventh inning.

Well that has all changed as Price has pitched a minimum of seven innings in his last six starts. That’s a career high for the lefty and is the longest current streak in the majors.

Price will be weary of Nick Swisher who has career .393 average against him.

CC SABATHIA(7-2, 3.68 ERA):

CC Sabathia

The last time Sabathia faced Price he gave up two unearned runs, while striking out a season-high of 10 Ray hitters and pitched over eight innings for the win.

The Rays offense has only scored two runs in the first two games, and they are not playing like themselves. The three errors on Tuesday night was so sloppy from a team that prides themselves on being defensively excellent.

Hey all MLB teams go through these slumps but it just so happens the Yankees are coming out one.

The timing here does give Sabathia a clear advantage over Price but he is 6-9 in his career vs. Tampa Bay; and these are Joe Maddon’s Rays, so you can never discount them, EVER.

Tampa Bay will need huge at-bats from BJ Upton, Desmond Jennings and lefty-mashing 2B Sean Rodriguez to take down the Yankees ace.

The Yankees are red-hot right now and the bats love to smash lefty pitching so Price will have his hands full in the Bronx tonight.

My guess is the Yankees will be bringing their brooms to the ballpark this evening.

Maybe magical Maddon can pull some runs out of his hat – after they leave the Bronx. Longo is lurking.
