I knew; the New York Yankees knew; and maybe you did too so why were so many fans shocked by this news?

It was not as if the information wasn’t official or documented in handwritten pencil.

Anyone with access to a computer, along with a slight inquisitiveness could easily obtain the necessary proof that this would happen more than just once.

That any team signing Kevin Youkilis should expect multiple stints on the DL (disabled list) over the course of a season.

Youkilis has not suffered from one recurring injury, but many ones, as he has not stayed healthy for an entire season since 2004.

Wait it gets worse, since 2006 Youkilis has been sidelined each regular season at least five different times.

His injuries range from ankle, knee, back, hip, thumb, shoulder, groin, abdomen, knee, thigh, hand, neck, foot and there are more.

The stints have lasted from 60-days to DTD but the point is the consistency is startling.

So the recent news of Youkilis heading to the 15-day DL should have been calculated into his scheduled playing time. As if, regardless Youkilis joins a DL list on the verge of MLB history as the most all-stars on one DL list ever.

Depending on any player with a lengthy injury history is a risk. Times that notion by two, and you get Youkilis.

GM Brian Cashman said the Yankees are to blame for playing Youkilis last Saturday after he sat out the previous eight games.

If Youks had not played his DL stint could have been backtracked a week. But I do not see how that matters since Youkilis claims he hurt himself in that return game.

Wouldn’t that be delaying the inevitable considering Youkilis missed 23-days in 2012 with the same  lumbar spine sprain?

Cashman explained his thought process to ESPN New York:

“You do the fire drill, you go through it, trainers, manager, coaches, player, doctor, everybody’s involved, front office. And if it works, you don’t look back. If it doesn’t work, you have regret. If we could do it all over again, we would not have played him last Saturday.”

Honestly, I don’t think anything or anyone could have prevented Youkilis from hurting himself as the odds are blatantly unavoidable.

Here is a table of Youkilis career injury history but I am warning you to brace yourself.

  1. GEORGE says:

"If Youks had not played his DL stint could have been backtracked a week. But I do not see how that matters since Youkilis claims he hurt himself in that return game."

That's the point. If he had been been on the DL and NOT played Sat, they could have backdated him and he would be eligible to come off of the DL sooner. Now , he's out until 13 May.

    • LLP says:

I understand that George but I do not think it would have mattered because his back was obviously in bad shape. Youks was supposed to miss one game, which turned into the entire series in Toronto, and he ended up missing 8-straight prior to him hurting it last Saturday. My point was if they had DL'ed him instead, Youks would have returned this weekend, and that might have been too soon anyway.
Meaning….he could have gotten hurt this Saturday coming off he DL and most likely would have considering the situation.

  2. GEORGE says:

So in 2012, he missed 0 games and you think this chart proves what again ?????? Why do you even bother?

    • LLP says:

It proves that he gets hurt all the time….that was my point, and the chart proves it tenfold.

And actually he missed 22-games in 2012….I have to get a better table plugin as it has a mind of its own.

      • George says:

We can only comment on what you put at there. Maybe you should read what you write.

    • LLP says:

George – Youks had the same sprain in 2012 and missed a month.

      • George says:

And the Red Sox also kept him in AAA (doghouse) for xtra time because they wanted to play Middlebrooks. Look it up. All Sprains are not the same are they??

  3. George says:

Are you just a DOWN personality?

    • LLP says:

No George I am not a \”down personality\” but I am a realistic one. I proceed with caution.
