Yankees fans proceed with caution: Why these two World Series teams are the elite

The 2013 MLB World Series is set to start this Wednesday night, as the Boston Red Sox host the St. Louis Cardinals in Game One; and what a treat for baseball

fans it will be.

As this WS Championship features the two best baseball teams of this past decade, and to the surprise of many New York fans neither is named the Yankees.

Whether you like it or not, success in pro sports is measured on winning championships.

Is this exact?

No, not individually, as many of whom are considered élite MLB players that never won a championships like Ted Williams, Ken Griffey Jr. and Harmon Killebrew to name a few.

But team-wise, winning championships is the greatest accomplishment and a franchise will not be considered the best if this number is zero.

So as hard as this is to admit as a Yankees fan, over the past 10 seasons, the Boston Red Sox and the St. Louis Cardinals are the two élite teams in MLB.

What have the Red Sox, and Cardinals done that arguably makes them the two best teams?

Here are a few joint accomplishments of the two since 2003:

–       5 World Series appearances.

–       4 World Series Championships. (BOS – 04’ & 07’) (STL – 05’ & 11’)

–       7 pennants.

–       14 playoff appearances.

So what does this all mean?

The winner of this World Series will not only be the 2013 Champions, but also be considered the best MLB team since 2003.

Unhappily, for Yankees fans, the last decade we have seen one World Series Championship back in 2009, missed this years postseason and were embarrassed by the Detroit Tigers the two years earlier.

Hey as Bo Diddly once said… “Maybe I’ll take a rain check and try to get in next year.”
