New York Yankees: Andy Pettitte you missed us too much

As I was sitting down to watch the Yankees host the Washington Nationals today, the YES networkboys dropped a bomb.

English: Andy Pettitte

That pitcher Andy Pettitte has un-retired and had signed a minor league, 1-year, 2.5 million deal with a plan to return to the Bronx again.

It was said that Pettitte is allowed to take all the time he needs to get ready and that a rotation spot will be ready for the 39-year old southpaw.

The last time Pettitte was on the mound was back in 2010, making 21 starts and finishing 11-3 with a 3.28 ERA. Pettitte was having a career year but he missed 4-5 weeks with a groin injury and Yankee fans were forced to stomach Sergio Mitre during that time.

Pettitte’s return was a total shock, as I knew he was invited to camp to be a guest instructor but the NY Post writer George E. King declared that, ….the legendary lefty won’t be attempting a comeback if he accepts.

Shows how much King knows, as GM Brian Cashman said this has brewed since late December.

Around Christmas time, Pettitte had heard the GM on the Michael Kay Show talking about how much the Yankees would still want him if he ever wanted to return, and that got his juices flowing.

That sparked a whirlwind of back and forth between the two, which at first didn’t pan out because of the Yankees overflow and money but Pettitte did not stop throwing the entire time. And after more back and forth, followed by throwing a good secret bullpen for Cashman, Girardi and Rothschild a few days ago all led to Pettitte now being officially back in the pinstripes. New York Yankees: Injury updates already

From the start to the end of Spring Training, players are warming-up their bodies to get ready for the 162-game grind of the regular season.

Unfortunately injury setbacks are inevitable, and daily reports sometimes seem endless but also remember that if a player feels anything is off, he will rest as a precautionary measure.

You can see the most up-to-date injury reports, team-by-team by visiting ESPN Injury Updates ; that is what I do many times daily.

So, here are the early setbacks that have already hit the New York Yankees, courtesy of ESPN: Continue reading ‘New York Yankees: Injury updates already’ »

New York Yankees: Manny Banuelos Update

Thanks to the YES Network, the New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox game was blacked out in New York despite being advertised to be showing on ESPN2.

This was ridiculous of YES to blackout one of the most relevant games of Spring Training and one that fans were very excited to watch. YES had the Nets vs. Celtics game on and ESPN ran SportsCenter for two straight hours.

So, Yankee fans missed watching prospect Manny Banuelos pitch against Boston’s A-line-up. This was announced last yesterday after slated starter Sergio Mitre couldn’t go due to stiffness in his left oblique. The injury is not of any concern according to the Yankees.

Skipper Joe Girardi decided to start Banuelos in place of Mitre, which means the Yankees have faith in this kid. Banuelos is  something for fans to definetly be excited about, as the just turned 20-year-old has been impressing throughout Spring Training.

Will we see Banuelos in the Bronx during 2011?

Knowing the Yankees it would be doubtful because of he needs more innings in the minors.  Post-All-Star break it would not surprise me if that sentiment changes because Banuelos is that talented and keeping him in the minors is wasting his talents.

Since I could not watch the game here is the NY Post writer Brian Costello’s article of how Banuelos outing went.

Yankees prospect Banuelos hangs tough vs. Red Sox regulars

FORT MYERS, Fla. — With all the hype around Manuel Banuelos, you expected the Yankees prospect to levitate to the mound, turn the water in the cooler into wine and throw lightning bolts from his left hand against the Red Sox last night.
He didn’t quite do all that, but Banuelos was impressive in his first start of the spring. The 20-year-old left-hander struggled with his control, but showed poise when he got into jams and gave glimpses of a filthy fastball and a nasty changeup. He allowed two hits in 2 2/3 shutout innings, striking out two and walking three.

Yankees Test Starts Wednesday

Starting a 19-game run last week, the New York Yankees looked to be in trouble coming off a miserable road trip.

Derek Jeter, Mark Teixeira and Alex Rodriguez were not hitting at all, add that to the growing list of injuries, and you have the temperament of darn nifty pity party.

Blame it entirely on being homesick because once the Yankees got back to the Bronx on Friday night the team came back to life.

Beating the AL Central first place Minnesota Twins for two of three games, the Yankees, as a group, looked determined and nothing was going to stop them.

The Yankees continue this difficult period in their agenda by welcoming the hated Red Sox to town for two games.

The Red Sox are in fourth place, behind the surprisingly competitive Toronto Blue Jays. These two games are the Yankees to take, and helps them training for the games that follow.

After the Red Sox, the most crucial wins for the Yankees come Wednesday and Thursday, with the arrival of the Tampa Bay Rays.

As a Yankees fan, I am sick and tired of hearing about the Tampa Bay Rays.

No denying the Rays are a formidable team. They currently lead the Yankees in the AL East standings and retain young, mega-talented players all around. Continue reading ‘Yankees Test Starts Wednesday’ »

Yankees Trade: Kim Jones for Me?

I hate being so mean, but one of the most annoying parts about watching a Yanks game has to be hearing the YES Network‘s Kim Jones. In all honesty, I think her pre-game/post-game showcases and interviews are terrible. She wraps well with the guys in the booth but she doesn’t shed any perspective that keeps a viewer listening. I sometimes listen just to hear what comes out of her mouth.

I do not know Ms. Jones at all and I’m sure she brings something that keeps her in this coveted job. In my observations as the ideal fan she is supposed to connect with, she has yet to carry out anything but the complete opposite.

Just to keep this in perspective, I am sure Kim Jones is a nice person who works hard. That’s not my focus here. This is about the lack of what I presume the job description and outcome is supposed to be.

Maybe that’s why her product or intention seems so far-fetched; could be that she simply doesn’t care enough to waste the effort. Who knows why, and who really cares? I can tell you – I do. And, here are just a few reasons why I’m better suited for the job:

1. I actually like the Yankees. Ms. Jones has become the dreaded interview that one mandatory Yankee, usually the game’s MVP, has to partake in right before heading off the field. This looks like a chore for the player who has to endure this honor on any given night.

2. I would not jinx the Yankee Captain right before the first game of the post season against Cleveland (and the Yanks were the wild card too!). Ms. Jones has done this on more than one occasion where, as a result, she gets the “you’re kidding me, right?” look from the player who gets to answer her outlandish question. As a baseball fan and, more importantly, as the bridge between the viewers and the Yankees, shouldn’t’t she be more aware than anyone about how superstitious athletes and sports fans are?

3. It’s time for a new face for the Yankees pre/post game. And, come on, how much could her contract be tying up the YES Network for money? The Yankees organization hates the idea of not keeping the fans interested, and I’m definitely not interested and almost dread what has become an expected face for each and every game. I could be just that new face the Yankees need as this team is fun and different, so YES should follow. Continue reading ‘Yankees Trade: Kim Jones for Me?’ »

Is Kim Jones a Yankees Fan???

As I was watching the tonight’s game (another nice win!!) I had a flashback from the playoffs in the 2007 season.

Envision this…the Yankees against the Indians in Cleveland, as they were the wild card team. It was right before the start of game one or two. My Yanks lost both games so what’s the real difference except game two was the infamous bug game where Joba looked like he had just come out of a swamp as a zombie. (Now that I think of it that is the one time Joba needed to be pulled out of the game as he was to young to know to do….sorry I am a retarded scatter brain) Point being it was during the pre-game warm ups, minutes before the first pitch; YES Network‘s pre and post game interviewer Kim Jones was getting ready for her little face to face pre-game with out captain. I am sure it is a highlight for all the lucky players who get to chit-chat with Ms. Jones.

Now I am on record that my recollection of this particular interview is not exactly how it played out with the actually statements made in the quick interview so I will just cut to the chase. Kim basically rattled off to Jeter his post season stats and how he has the best of this stat ever in baseball….blah, blah, blah. After she was done informing Jeter of his own stats that he definitely had not clue about she asked if he could live up to that and is that pressuring. Jeter looked at her like she was high and said well thanks for just jinxing me before a playoff game.
This is not the first time in which YES’s own employee, aka. Kim Jones has had Yankees players give her that look of “Did she seriously just ask me that?” And the word ‘jinx’ would be almost always be included in the player response. You would think that a person would have gotten the hint by now and I would presume with Ms. Jones job you would have to know sports and know them well.
My question and concern is that she doesn’t at all. Athletes are very superstitious as anyone would be if winning was at stake. I am not insinuating that voodoo and cult like craziness to the point of ridiculous is happening in the locker room at all.
But come on…nobody wants to be jinxed!!! And isn’t Ms. Jones getting her paycheck from the same bankroll the players are?? One would think as they all work for the some company!!
Tonight after another Yankee win and being in first place, barely. I think the world knows, as do the Yankees that have not even began to be in any place to think they got it in the bag, not at all, not even close. So why does Ms. Jones continually jinx not only Jeter with the error free streak comment but immediately after him Arod was her next victim!! Continue reading ‘Is Kim Jones a Yankees Fan???’ »
