Yankee Fans Ain't Going Out Like That: Yes, The Yanks Can Scare Their Fans

The Yanks are being described as unstoppable right now.

Unstoppable is defined in the dictionary as incapable of being stopped or surpassed; unbeatable.

That is the most unsettling term for a fan when the season has not finished or won the championship.

I learned this from the fortunate perspective of being a huge New York Giants fan in 2007. The team in the playoffs with only one pro-bowl worthy player beat Tampa, Dallas, Green Bay and then the unstoppable New England Patriots.

The ordinary G-Men suddenly were the unstoppable team in the end. Glad I was not a Pats fan that February 3rd afternoon or a bookie in Vegas who must have gotten killed with each game the Giants won.I must admit the disgust of a 12 point spread for the Superbowl Game because that was heartless in itself.

The Yanks have won the most games in baseball thus far with 74 in total. The Red Sox look finished for the division race and Tampa is not the same team as last year.

That should mean nothing to any Yankee player, fan whatever because Tampa and Boston slide into the Wild Card I will be scared.

Post-season baseball or any other sport it is like starting over again. No team has to catch another or is ahead/behind in games. It is like being reborn again after getting wasn’t hard enough.

The Yanks need to keep their heads in their helmets (pun with all the heads being hit lately) because the minute the team starts to believe what others are saying it will be detrimental.

Imagine the NY Post Headline possibilities, “Our Yanks Got Spanked” or “Mets Can Breath Again As Yankees Fall Even Worse”.

Even worse would be the pictures of stunned fans crying and unable to leave the seat in utter disbelief of what they just supposedly witnessed.

Then the anger of who kept saying unstoppable over and over again. The collapsing of the unstoppable Yanks, no one said that could happen.

Here is my advice of what needs to be done:

1.

Ignore, blank-out, put your fingers in both ears while making that annoying ummmm noise or wear ear plugs but PLEASE do not listen to the media, Mets, Boston or Phillies fans paying the Yanks any compliments or insinuating that we have it the bag, because it is a trick. It would be the best thing other than breathing for the above to watch the Yanks fall.
2.

For Cashman, Girardi and the boys upstair please dispose of the Joba Rules. If Cashman happen to get the same court order used as the PED Survey making the rules mandatory then just ignore #2. Then this special player can get on to what he does best, pitch and be treated like a princess when he does something to prove himself.
3.

So if #2 is needed or not I can say that when the rules have been abolished the four man rotation in the post season is looking like the only option. Unless Cashman can get Hank to loosen the pockets some more in the next two weeks and get some ace off waivers. I do not like this idea at all but if the option otherwise would be moving Hughes to start and the princess to the bullpen, feel free to bankroll a pitcher. And Mitre is not even worth the effort of me typing that it is NOT going to workout with this guy.
4.

Matsui will be missed. No thriller for Godzilla needs to be taken seriously because other than Jeter, Matsui is a star in pressure situations. I love the walk-off wins this season has produced but in the overall scheme Jeter and Godzilla have the consistent numbers to prove it. Hopefully this is not for the long term.

The Yankees just got shut-out by Oakland and second loss in a row. A slump is not a word a want to hear anytime soon.

Hope for the best but expect the worst is the best way a fan can think right now. A team can’t be unstoppable because it is impossible so lets try and not get ahead of ourselves.

Joe Girardi’s Secrets: How The Yanks Took A Halladay

The Rogers Centre was at full capacity tonight up in Toronto. The fans looking relieved, confirming it was just a nightmare, as Roy Halladay, the best pitcher in baseball, walked onto the Blue Jays mound once again. Toronto’s ace looked like a goner before the trade deadline but the cost for Roy’s arm was just to high a price, even for the Yankees.

Halladay is so dynamite that if any opposing team’s starter has got to be basically perfect. It is inevitable that hitters will not be able to produce against Halladay, so in preparing for a game like tonight’s the idea of how to win has got to be under this assumption.

And that is exactly why Joe Girardi is such levelheaded manager. Not afraid to humbly admitted that the Yanks had to give it everything and anything to beat this individual ace.

It is refreshing that Girardi tells it like it is no. No matter who the player, the treatment has now consistently been shown to be equal. Not one guy gets treated any differently, which is a huge part of the comradeship that has formed.

The definition of “team” is what Girardi has accomplished in his last season and a half. That is no small feet with the amount of all-stars with huge paychecks the Yanks have. Then having to fill a hero’s shoes in Torre, only to have that same man he once called his skipper sell the team out for all to read about didn’t make the new Joe’s job any easier.

Girardi is now in sync with the players and it has shown in the determination to win over and over again. Beating Halladay was just another full blown example of what is happening and Girardi is responsible for the team’s success.

Along with our skipper, the players are so proud of their team to let that go.

This was seen tonight but the outstanding job done by Andy Petite who pitched seven plus solid innings. Commanding the plate with his cutter, Petite struck out Alex Rios for his sixth strike out and that was in the bottom of the seventh. The AL East: It Would Be Best To Bring You’re A-Game

How many teams are in this race?

For right now three teams; Tampa Bay RaysBoston Red Sox and New York Yankees.

Why is this week so important in the American League East?

The teams are playing within their own division so the wins and losses have more importance. The third place Tampa Bay Rays host the Boston Red Sox for a two game set. Boston is only a half a game behind the first place New York Yankees. The Yanks are up in Toronto for two nights at the Rogers Centre playing two against the Blue Jays.

With the Blue Jays lagging 12 games behind the Yanks there not really competing. Technically there is always a possibility to not be 100% completely out. I guess miracles do exist but for Toronto it does not look very hopeful or likely of the trio above all collapsing literally on their faces.

Toronto does know that beating the Yankees could potentially take their lead in the AL East right from under the boys from the Bronx. It is doubtful that Boston is going to win two at the Trop; as the best bet would be a spilt series.

Why? The answer is because Tampa decisively needs these wins. If Toronto wins just one and the Rays lose both it will put Tampa a half game behind Toronto. These two night games may very well predict where, last years AL Champs’ season’s future will be heading. The duel in Tropicana Field will both be games of tough baseball.

Let’s not forget that the second place Red Sox haven’t been behind their rivals for a few seasons now and it would be nice to head to the Bronx on Thursday in first place. It has been some time since the Red Sox have been in the lead and trust me they want it back. The Red Sox are going into to a four game series in NY and the rivalry is back to the good old days. Boston has the mentality of knowing that the Yanks haven’t beaten them yet this season. Their advantage lies in knowing how badly that fact kills the Yankee players and the Yankee fans probably hate it more. Boston would like nothing better than to fly back up north in first place and show up the Yanks in their own house again.

Tampa will put out all the stops to not let this happen but it sure ain’t for the Yanks sake. Joe Madden and his Rays are too good to be out of the race so “win, win, win” is mandatory theme.

This will bring the heat index up in Canada, as this has got to give the Yankees the hunger. In all truth, the time has come to one-up Boston. The Bombers know this entails coming home still in first. It is vital not to lose momentum.

Here is the perfect quote for the Yankees to live by:

“Whoever is winning at the moment will always seem to be invincible.” – George Orwell

What does each of the competing team need and want to do? Continue reading ‘The AL East: It Would Be Best To Bring You’re A-Game’ »

Don't Start A Slump, Chumps!!!

What MLB Team is leading the AL East right now?

My Yankees; for now at least as only a half a game separates a Boston takeover.

Boston won, Tampa won and the Yanks lost the third game in a row to the White Sox. Tonight AJ Burnett got burned early on and it was 6-0 by the end of the second inning.

The game was ugly and it went got uglier as the White Sox won finished off the boys from the Bronx 14-4.

Does any of the teams in all of MLB ever lose by letting the other team win?

Yes. The Yankees. As a fan you start to question decisions in order to make sense of it all. It makes you wonder if getting a Cliff Lee and giving up Austin Jackson would have been the right thing to do.

The Yankees have been playing red-hot baseball in every sense of the word. So the last three loses to the White Sox are unacceptable. The Mets of Chicago are a good ball-club but the Yanks are superior without a doubt.

Losing due to player making errors on their own accord is just plain stupid. In any sport to lose due to your own mistakes is the worst way to give it away. When you get out played there is not much more you can do than lose with dignity but at least you did your job.

If anyone didn’t watch the Wimbledon Men’s Finals this year go Google it because this match is the perfect example of what I am taking about.

The Yankees cannot afford to mess-up much more. Tampa will be in our faces in the blink of an eye, right after Boston Red Sox just cuts the line, again to be the leaders.

Hey it is baseball and this is what happens. The timing could not be worse in the Yanks schedule as next weekend Boston comes to town.

The fact is the Red Sox have brought the brooms out thus far and its time to let Boston know that payback is going to be a bitch.

The Yanks need to make a statement by not collapsing to the stronger teams.

Do they have enough to hang with the big boys being like the Angels and the Red Sox?

Yes, without a doubt!!!!

Three Quick Thoughts, Five Minutes Before Critical Tampa Series Starts

1. The Tampa Bay Rays seem to be creeping up. It has been a slow process but Joe Madden is making sure his team is in reach. My bet is that this young, talented ball club will pounce and it will happen fast. Lets not forget where the Yankees just were in the standings at the All-Star break. Either team cause their division peers will take the lose as one whole and with Boston still lurking in the middle critical for the Yankees to put themselves ahead.

2. Now the Boston Red Sox are struggling. This is largely due to injuries. As any one familiar with baseball knows that it happens and it is unfortunate but it can kill any hope for a teams future. The Rays just got back two of their best pitchers from last season recently and Evan Longoria‘s bat is heating up.

3. Also keep in mind that Tampa is not the rookie team it was of two seasons ago because the players have gone the distance. Being aware of what it takes to get through this long season. Imagine making it to the World Series only to lose has got to be a huge motivation for these athletes. What a way to start a winning streak then to take down the almighty New York Yankees.

The Yankees need to win this series for mental reasons just as much as where the team will stand in the toughest divisional race in baseball, the American League East.Tampa will attack any weaknesses and the Yanks need to continue to play consistent baseball in which all aspects play a part.

If the team happens to revert back to the pitching doing their jobs but the hitters are stranding runners on base or vice-versa it will be worrisome.

The Yankees need to prove themselves in this series as next week it is Boston and the team needs to go in with the most confidence possible!!

Good Luck and GOOOO YANNNNKKKEEEESSSSS!!!

Tonight: Yankees Lost To The Devils

Maybe, it’s only reasoning I can conclude for the sloppy mess of a game I stayed up to watch. It has to be a mental issue with the Yankees losing for years to the Angels.

English: Joba Chamberlain, spring training 200...

Torii Hunter and Vladimir Guerrerowere not even playing as both are on the DL. So as I replay all the reasons it is just getting worse and I am trying not to let it scare me, yet.
Ever since I can remember, no matter what kind of season the Yanks finish with, the club cannot beat the Los Angeles Angels. Every season the two teams play each other I expect the worst and tonight that is what I got, for sure.

I am almost speechless as the first inning was promising. The Yankee bats ripped into the Angels right away. I could only think, wow this team is really, really good and not going to stop for even the Angels. I actually prefer and refer to this LA club as the “devils”.

For fans, players, managers or any other unfortunate soul linked to my Yankees that have to witness this match-up it is not comforting at all. The ‘Devils’ work better for me as a Yankees fan as I go into a dark place when we get beaten year after year after year by this ball-club.Embarrassing, oh you bet it was. Errors are unacceptable and what a time to mess up textbook plays. I guess the best word to use would be sloppy.

It was 5-1 when the fifth inning began and I started to become confident watching the Yanks. All of a sudden Joba became completely undone. This youngster has to go longer into games and start to figure out why he is getting worse. First it was at home he struggled but was an ace on the road. Welcome to the new “Joba Rules” in which rule one states ‘if Joba starts to decline burn the original rule book, figure out what has happened and fix it.’

The Yankees Owe Someone A HUGHES Thank You!

Phil Hughes pumped up and fit.

What a terrific winning streak for the New York Yankees. Necessary, we all know this but I didn’t know that the player I would be blaming it on would be Phil Hughes.

Let’s look at the facts, which is what all sports enthusiasts will be picking apart from here till as long as their team lasts this season. As a “wanna be” sports writer, I do this from the spring training, which is passionate in the eye of the beholder.

The heat is on in AL East pennant race. My worst nightmare and if you have read any of my blog (so Dad) I knew that these guys were coming. The team formally known as the “Devil Rays” finally woke up and that is trouble.

Surely, all those new Tampa fans want that high from last season back. I wonder how filled Tropicana Field was when days were looking grim? Tampa was so daunting to me that I would think that fan base might be mad.

I actually thought that the team might be just off this season but deep down I knew better. TB has so much talent I think Joe Madden could pick out of hat for batting order. The old Devils are so young but age doesn’t play a role if the players are bad but again that is not the case.

I think you get my drift. Just in case, the Tampa Bay Rays are young, talented and hungry to get to a place that my Yankees know all to well.

Just another fact Ray’s won their seventh straight tonight against Toronto and Evan Longoria was not even playing. Yikes. Remember the Rays lights out pitcher from last year? Probably not, as he has been on the disabled list but Scott Kazmir is back. His slider is out of control good. Double – Yikes, Yikes!

Proudly I can say the Yankees are going to make this tough along with Boston and Tampa. Experts, rightly so counted my Yanks out in the beginning of the season but I knew it was all-wrong. This is a three-team battle that will be a fight till the end.

Yankees are right in there and damn good too. I just had no idea as of a month ago that a Hughes reason was due to Phil being moved from a starter to middle. This is just so baby Joba continues as starter.

Isn’t this starting to feel like Joba has become a trophy inscribed with “in your face” on it for Cashman or Girardi? Last year I would have just blamed Hank the Tank but where has baby Stein been this year. Must have done well at the horse track but he went from being a true Steinbrenner too completely non-existent and we all no this guy speaks his mind. Incase you forgot we have owners here is a reminder: Continue reading ‘The Yankees Owe Someone A HUGHES Thank You!’ »
