New York Yankees vs. New York Giants

Just two days after watching the New York Giants win their second Super Bowl in four years, it is hard not to dream of the Yankees capturing a World Series title.

Being on the brink of the 2012 MLB season, I got to thinking, what do the Giants have that the Yankees are missing?

So, I started writing down the advantages that both New York team’s posses and after mulling through two messy lists, below are the most important points.

ADVANTAGE YANKEES:

-        Have all-star roster in place.

-        The ‘Yankees’ brand itself.

-        Players want to be Yankees because of the illustrious history.

-        Yankees haven’t missed the playoffs in 15 seasons, except for 2008.

-        Most successful sports franchise ever, with 27 World Championships.

-        A generous ownership.

ADVANTAGE GIANTS:

-        QB/Captain who is really a team player, a quiet leader off the field, but not on; and just an overall good guy.

-        Players who call each other out publicly.

-        A Coach who stuck to his plan.

-        A stellar GM who makes incredible draft picks.

-        A team that talks the talk and walks the walk.

-        Team consists of an array of characters, but all have equal voices.

-        One of the most respected ownerships in sports today.

-        Fighters.

-        Believe in each other through and through.

These two lists are very broad because football and baseball are very different sports, but being a team is not.

Still, I could not figure out what the Giants had that the Yankees don’t that turns a team with a 9-7 record into World Champions? Continue reading ‘New York Yankees vs. New York Giants’ »

Lady Loves Pinstripes: Is my team trying to lose Super Bowl XLVI?

Looking at Ford Field the night of Super Bowl XL

At 6:30pm tomorrow, Super Bowl XLVI will officially be underway, so it only seems proper that I pick a winner and a loser between the New England Patriots or the New York Giants.

There is only one problem; I am a lifelong Giants fan.

Picking the Giants to win felt way too Jet-like to me.
Especially after seeing the behavior of Rex Ryan and his Jets, the last thing I expected was for the Giants players to go down that path the week of the Super Bowl.
As anyone acting overly confident before facing Patriots QB Tom Brady and coach Bill Belichick is ultimately begging them for a bad day.
I always thought the last thing a self-confident person did was talk about it because they usually owned it.
Believe it, own it, or tattoo it on you behind for all I care but don’t turn into Rex Ryan because Halloween is in October, not February.
So, since I didn’t anticipate hearing any white noise from Big Blue this week it was very unfortunate when I did. Continue reading ‘Lady Loves Pinstripes: Is my team trying to lose Super Bowl XLVI?’ »

New York Yankees: Jeter Infection Spreads to Super Bowl

The Yankees captain Derek Jeter has always been quite the heartthrob, and not with just the ladies.

It seems that the Jeter bug has hit Indianapolis this week, as not one but both Super Bowl XLVI quarterbacks admitted to having a serious man-crush on El Capitan.

Yes, that would be one Patriots Tom Brady and one Giants Eli Manning.

The two QB’s took time to slip in some words of absolute admiration for Jeter during their media day this past Tuesday.

Both Super Bowl bound guys are taken; Manning is married to his very attractive college girlfriend; and Brady goes home to Gisele…need I say more?

The New York Daily News quoted Brady, just two days ago, as saying:

“You see someone who plays the game the way you think it needs to be played, like Derek Jeter. I love the way he plays the game.”

Boston fans must have thrown up; and than swallowed it rehashing Brady’s Yankee hat wearing days and further proof that it was no accident. Continue reading ‘New York Yankees: Jeter Infection Spreads to Super Bowl’ »

New York Giants Fans “You Down With JPP”

New York Giant fans are like a bunch of kids on Christmas, as they wait for their G-MEN to play the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI on Sunday, February 5th.

Hope this latest youtube.com creation gets you even more pumped for this game…..and hopefully another Boston & Brady beating.

You owe a BIG thank you to a Mr. Josh Hyman for this one.

Move Over Yankees, New York Giants Rule This City

Wow, is all I can say.

Anyone who saw the NFC Championship Game featuring the New York Giants vs. San Francisco 49ers game would be hard pressed to say any different.

In the end the Giants won in OT 20-17, but the game was so inspiring because both teams fought with so much heart as it was a literal blood bath.

Undoubtedly it is easier as a Giants fan to say congratulations are in order for both teams, but that is the truth.

When you think about where the Giants were a few weeks ago, to now being crowned the NFC Champions and are Super Bowl bound; it is unbelievable.

It reminded me back on December 22 before the Jets game Giants DE Justin Tuck said:

“We got a lot of catching up to get to, what is it … 27 rings now the Yankees got? They run New York if you want to talk about running New York.”

Well, let me tell Justin Tuck that, as his Giants get ready to face the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis on February 5th that statement is starting to get old.

The New York Yankees might be the most decorated, but for now this town is all Giants because they earned it proudly. Continue reading ‘Move Over Yankees, New York Giants Rule This City’ »

New York Yankees: Jets Rex Ryan Should Copy Skipper Joe Girardi and Coach Tom Coughlin

English: Joe Girardi

The inevitable finally happened this past weekend, as the New York Jets collapsed on their faces when the fans were promised a Super Bowl, again.

Anyone—other than delusional Jets fans—saw this one coming because Jets coach Rex Ryan has made this promise for three years now and has not delivered.

What started out as inspiring for a franchise that makes the Mets look legit, Ryan went overboard and wouldn’t stop.

See, Ryan spent time trying to make everyone else believe they could win except the Jets players. All you have to do is look at the results.

Ryan had no set rules that applied to everyone. He wanted to be seen as one of “the boys” that works like a charm at the get-go because it’s fun. It never lasts because it leaves a shade of grey that becomes confusing to the players, the fans and anyone else who feeds into his mantra when it’s all BS.

In high school, I played three varsity sports and the most successful years were when the coach was in charge. All it took was one moment of a coach attempting to be cool and the team would lose focus. Continue reading ‘New York Yankees: Jets Rex Ryan Should Copy Skipper Joe Girardi and Coach Tom Coughlin’ »

Lady Loves Pinstripes: Talks Yankees, Tebow & PSU With Sports-Kings Jim Racalto

Last Friday night, I had the pleasure of being the featured interviewee on Sports-Kings.com Weekend Podcast.

Sports-Kings.com co-founder Jim Racalto and I gabbed about everything from Penn State, to Tim Tebow Time and of course the New York Yankees.

Jim is a die-hard Steelers fan, but what he might not have realized was admitting that Pittsburgh was on the path for a repeat Super Bowl appearance almost made me throw-up.

Overall, the interview was a total blast and I hope to be a guest of the Sports-Kings again soon.

And trust me when I tell you to go check out Sports-Kings.com. It is well worth it for anyone who calls him or herself a sports fan because these guys cover it all.
