Mark Teixeira Slams New York Mets Back To Reality

The New York Yankees beat the New York Mets for the second game in a row to win the series, but this weekend a lot more changed for the Bombers.

The Yankees knew what the possibilities of winning this series could do, and the team made it happen.

As great as winning the Subway Series and being in first place feels, doesn’t hold a candle to getting Mark Teixeira back.

Yankees fans held their breath through April and May, finding comfort in knowing Teixeira’s career struggles were part of the deal.

That comfort became concerning, as days became weeks and looking back Teixeira’s past seasons stats were not ever this bad. The Yankees new hero was a complete zero at the plate.

Rightly so, Yankees fans had enough because the reality was costing the team games. The media finally joined in, wondering when Joe Girardi would move Teixeira out of the three-hole.

Girardi seemed to be contemplating a viable replacement, but not acknowledging that this was not the same hitter player from 2009. This was no shock, as Girardi is very generous when it comes to giving struggling player’s extended chances.

As noble as Girardi’s theory sounds, he was not managing a junior high-school softball team. By now, Girardi should have a tattoo of the Yankees motto of winning now and doing whatever it takes to get there. Continue reading ‘Mark Teixeira Slams New York Mets Back To Reality’ »

Subway Series: Game Three Preview

Another familiar match-up to end the second Subway Series, as  Game three features New York’s ace lefties CC Sabathia (NYY) and Johan Santana (NYM) will face off on the mound on Sunday afternoon.

Coincidentally, both pitchers have pitched 92 innings and walked 30 batters this season.

The rest of their season numbers are not much further apart. Thus far, Sabathia has 76 strike-outs, compared to 59 for Santana. Santana has only given up seven home-runs, with a 3.13 era, and Sabathia has been taken deep 12 times, with a 4.0 era.

Neither southpaws are pitching their best stuff. There is one fact that separates the two and it’s Queens and the Bronx.

In games where Santana pitched and put the Mets in line for a win, he got absolutely no run support from the Mets hitters.   Continue reading ‘Subway Series: Game Three Preview’ »

Subway Series: Who’s Gonna Run This Town Tonight

The Yankees host the Mets this weekend, for part two of the Subway Series.

With both New York teams are flirting with first place in their respected division, in addition to the usual fan pride, winning this series is essential.

The pitching match-ups are about the only thing that looks the same. The two teams are more evenly matched because the Mets have been playing better as of late.

Coming off a seven game win streak for the Mets is close to a miracle, for a team who has shown little character. Winning against two of the bottom-feeders of the AL, the Orioles and Indians, makes it less threatening.

As for the Yankees, just when you think their getting hot again they lose. It is hard to make sense of what is going on right now in the Bronx.

Not many teams beat-up on Roy Halladay like the Yankees did on Tuesday night. It seemed surreal for about a 47 seconds, until Jamie Moyer brought the Yankees back down to earth. Scorching hot to freaking freezing is not typical for the Yankees.

All in all, getting a unbelievable performance from Andy Pettitte yesterday to go and lose the game is disgusting. Phillies Kyle Kendrick pitched very well, but this Jeter, Arod and Teixeira nonsense has to stop now. Continue reading ‘Subway Series: Who’s Gonna Run This Town Tonight’ »

Jorge Posada, Derek Jeter Bring Brooms And Deja Vu Back To New York

New York Yankees brought out their brooms in the Bronx, as they swept the Houston Astros over the weekend.

The Yankees were without Arod, but you wouldn’t know it by the way the team beat-on the Astros.

Jorge Posada actually brought two brooms; one broom was to hit two grand slams. The extra broom was to shut-up everyone who had doubted his abilities over the last two weeks.

Along with Jorge, the Captain came through big time. Jeter has two homers in Saturday’s game alone and seems to have found his swagger at the perfect time.

Ramiro Pena who is taking on Arod’s role with two RBI’s; Brett Gardner continues to defy all odds driving in two runs and raising his batting average to .317; and rookie Chad Huffman got his first big league hit over this very productive weekend.

Also, Robinson Cano had a milestone, hitting his 100th home run in pinstripes. Cano has been ridiculous this season and it has been a treat to witness.

Actually, the whole Yankees team played like they were defending something again. It was refreshing to watch, as well as needed after an ugly May.

The Bombers are entering part two of not just the World Series, but the Subway Series as well.

Against the Phillies, both teams are playing for bragging rights. The Yankees for keeps, and the Phillies as proof. Continue reading ‘Jorge Posada, Derek Jeter Bring Brooms And Deja Vu Back To New York’ »

Yankees Are Falling Fast

Tonight, the Empire State Building will shine in orange and blue, as New York City belongs to the Mets and their fans after winning the Subway Series.

It hurts to see the Yankees lose, as they are clearly struggling the last two weeks. It cannot be blamed on injuries anymore, as the team is not playing well at all.

With the Red Sox and the Blue Jays, both winning the Yankees grace period is about two days until they fall in the standings to third or even fourth place.

If anyone tells you not to be concerned as a Yankees fan, it is a lie. You should be concerned.

The Yankees are not the shoe-in wild card team anymore. There are too many other teams that look better, and the Yankees cannot manage to dig a bigger hole. Continue reading ‘Yankees Are Falling Fast’ »

Subway Series: Two Teams Who Are Totally Different

SUBWAY SERIES

As one might expect, thinking about the New York Mets and New York Yankees is not exactly a fan’s field of dreams.

The Yankees caught the injury bug; and the Mets are just being the Mets, if it is not one thing it is another.

The normally anticipated Subway Series is starting tonight, but the glory of New York City is what is at stake. The winning team’s colors will shine over the city at-top the Empire State Building after Sunday night’s game.

WHO NEEDS TO WIN IT MORE?

The Mets:

Obviously, the Mets have been so miserable, for so long that Mets fans could at least feel some satisfaction at home. It might not have the effect some hope, as false promises and broken dreams have been the hallmark of the Mets.

Personally, I think the Mets have to fire Jerry Manual and get a firecracker of a manager to assess and drive this team. They need to begin to fill the ballpark and gain confidence back again. Continue reading ‘Subway Series: Two Teams Who Are Totally Different’ »

Yankees Are Starting A Tough Three Weeks

Tonight, up in Fenway Park is the beginning of a 17-game stretch for New York Yankees.

Before their next off-day, Yankees face the Boston Red Sox for five games, four games against the Tigers in Detroit, three against the 1st seat Twins, two against Tampa Bay Rays and last three games over the bridge in Citi-field for the Subway Series.

The Tigers are hot right now, and the Twins and Rays are both in first place.

The Red Sox cannot be counted out because when the rivals face each other it is a war that cannot be predicted.

Finally, the Mets have found life again but New York City is all pinstripes that will not change quickly. The Mets had to start somewhere. The Empire State Building donned in blue and orange would get the ball rolling.

By the time the Yanks go to Subway Series, let’s hope the injuries are not worse.

Yankee youngsters’ led by Cano, Gardner, Pena, Cervelli, Chamberlain and Hughes have done the job well so far, but can they maintain is the case looming.

In 17-days we will see the answers, as for now the Champions hold the opportunity to explain.
