Super Bowl XLV Giveaway: Congrads To Lisa Swan Of Subway Squawkers

Lady Loves Pinstripes had a Super Bowl XLV Giveaway, where the two winners (picked at random) each receive a $50.00 gift card from Fansedge.com, which has the biggest section of officially licensed sports products on the planet.

Our first winner happens to be the brains behind one of my favorite New York baseball sites. Trust me, you will thank me later after you visit winner and Yankee fan Lisa Swan at Subway Squawkers.

Subway Squawkers appeals to both Yankees and Mets fans, with Lisa writing about the Bombers and her partner Jon Lewin talking about life with the New York Mets.

Both New Yorkers, and diehard fans that love to argue about their teams – and each other.

Subway Squawkers is a favorite read of mine, as it is enlightening, straightforward, and can keep all New York baseball fans up-to-date with the latest news. This is a must read for New York Yankees and Mets fans alike.

Pre-Spring Training Already Started For Derek Jeter and Phil Hughes

Just a quick update on the New York Yankees, as reported over at LoHud Yankees Blog, pitcher Phil Hughes and the Captain Derek Jeter are already down in Tampa, Florida at the Yankees minor league facility.

Nothing wrong with a little pre-Spring Training and it is always great to know that the players are just as hungry as ever.

It is definitely getting me excited for the start of the 2011 baseball season, as with every off-season you start to get the baseball blues.

MLB Breaking News: Michael Kay Tweets Andy Pettitte Is In New York To Announce Retirement

Yes, it is true. New York Yankees Southpaw Andy Pettitte will announce his retirement at Yankee Stadium tomorrow, February 4.

This is according to ESPN’s Michael Kay who twittered, “I have learned that Andy Pettitte will officially retire tomorrow. Mote details to come….Michael”

This is sad news for Yankee fans and the franchise, as Pettitte has been a staple playing 14 years in pinstripes.

The Yankees “Core Four” will never play baseball together again, after winning five World Series rings together.

Pettitte will be sorely missed, but he has certainly earned to walk away with his head held high.

The press conference’s official time has yet to be announced.

New York Yankees: ESPNw Uses The Bombers In Pathetic Attempt To Be Get Popular

With a tad under two weeks before Superbowl XLV and a lack of sports news to report, ESPN finds some time to get their new w-brand some readers.

Without much breaking news to report, the easiest answer is to create some, right?

That is the only justifiable answer for why ESPN had a statement made by New York Yankees GM Brian Cashman about team Captain Derek Jeter scrolling on its news tracker all day. Oh, ESPN did plug it as reported by ESPNw.

Slick move, but ESPNw slogan is ESPN’s “Online Destination for Female Sports Fans and Athletes.”

Guess that is going well for the company, as all of a sudden ESPNw is reporting on men’s sports, which completely contradicts the need to be gender separate.

Regardless, every news outlet is reporting on Cashman’s statement, which was a response to a question asked at his annual breakfast during the Q & A.

Cashman was asked about Jeter playing shortstop for the next four seasons.

Cashman’s answer was this:

“I like corner outfielders and corner infielders who have power, so for me, if he’s ever gonna move, it’s probably gonna be a Robin Yount situation. But we don’t have to deal with it at this point. We’ll deal with it when we have to.”

Cashman made it clear following that by saying, “Jeter’s our shortstop, period.”

What is the big deal about this statement?

Nothing, because like anything in life, it is a possible, but to take this statement and turn it into a circus because the Yankees want to generate listeners is pathetic. Continue reading ‘New York Yankees: ESPNw Uses The Bombers In Pathetic Attempt To Be Get Popular’ »
