Remember You Are The Champs

Never thought the day would happen when a Boston Red Sox win would feel happy. Well it did tonight, as the Red Sox beat the Rays 6-1, in Tampa Bay.

As a Yankees fan, it was reassuring considering the 180 degree turn the group has taken for the worse.

Just ten days ago, the Red Sox had a similar look that the Yankees seemed to have caught.

Just look at the AL East standings from May 15. 2010 to today:

Yankees Did Not Lose They Got Beat

I was not a devoted fan tonight.

I left the New York Yankees game in the seventh inning, as the Tampa Bay Rays were up 6-2 and Boone Logan was jogging to the mound.

The Yankees looked tired. This does sound like an excuse, which it completely is but it is still a fact. The Boston Red Sox were just in town, meaning games are intense, long and both Monday and Tuesday’s tactics were no different. Both went down to the wire and last night they played till around 1am.

At the same time, the Tampa Bay Rays provide a full-court press on the Yankees. This group pushes and pushes stealing six bases tonight off AJ Burnett, who has only allowed six this season.

Burnett got beat tonight; as the Rays are abundant everywhere and the fourth inning topped the cake with a result of 6-0, Rays.

It was not completely Burnett’s fault. The Rays could see Burnett’s pitches from the get-go, and they utilized on it.

The bottom line is the Rays out played the Yankees, I saw it with my own eyes, and I could not watch it anymore.

Leaving the game was a better option, even though I listened on the subway as Logan did exactly what I thought he would do. Continue reading ‘Yankees Did Not Lose They Got Beat’ »

Rays vs. Yankees Pitching Preview Part One

The Tampa Bay Rays have a line-up that can hit the ball, steal bases and score runs.

So do the New York Yankees.

Pitching had the biggest role in the first series against the Rays, which the Yankees won two for three games.

Let’s look at the pitching match-ups for the two games, in this post Wednesday match-up and part two will cover Thursday’s game.

WADE DAVIS (TBR) vs. AJ BURNETT (NYY)

WADE DAVIS:

PROS:

Wade Davis can throw for strikes, and has a 3.38 ERA so far I 2010. He must command the mound and use the Yankees inexperience against him by mixing up his pitches. Davis has surpassed top pitchers already this season, one being 2009 AL CY Young Zach Greinke. Davis needs to keep up that mindset once again. If he can keep his fastball’s velocity up and his curveball is on, Davis can limit the Yankees bats. Continue reading ‘Rays vs. Yankees Pitching Preview Part One’ »

Yankees Test Starts Wednesday

Starting a 19-game run last week, the New York Yankees looked to be in trouble coming off a miserable road trip.

Derek Jeter, Mark Teixeira and Alex Rodriguez were not hitting at all, add that to the growing list of injuries, and you have the temperament of darn nifty pity party.

Blame it entirely on being homesick because once the Yankees got back to the Bronx on Friday night the team came back to life.

Beating the AL Central first place Minnesota Twins for two of three games, the Yankees, as a group, looked determined and nothing was going to stop them.

The Yankees continue this difficult period in their agenda by welcoming the hated Red Sox to town for two games.

The Red Sox are in fourth place, behind the surprisingly competitive Toronto Blue Jays. These two games are the Yankees to take, and helps them training for the games that follow.

After the Red Sox, the most crucial wins for the Yankees come Wednesday and Thursday, with the arrival of the Tampa Bay Rays.

As a Yankees fan, I am sick and tired of hearing about the Tampa Bay Rays.

No denying the Rays are a formidable team. They currently lead the Yankees in the AL East standings and retain young, mega-talented players all around. Continue reading ‘Yankees Test Starts Wednesday’ »

The Yankees Could Be Moving On Up….A Ton

The Yankees are about as tight lipped as Tiger Woods, regarding who the team’s biggest crush is on right now.

For the Yankees, it is more of a guessing game involving just a few names, a love contract and a new outfit.

“Tiger-Land” is the small country forming by the list of the Woods-Women is growing. This is at such a pace Woods could have his own 40-roaster before Cashman ever says a word.

Over in Yankee-Universe, the rides are getting older and the team needs to get some youth for next season.

This is not saying ability is based on age. Mariano Rivera is living proof at 40, along with 34-year-old Jeter who had a career year, and Arod who is the same age, has not even reached his ultimate potential.

Lately, as I read rumors everyday I started to go over stats, age, ability and attitude. A fact is that the team’s ability is undeniable heading into 2010 season but with some fresh stock it could be even greater. The Yankees need a player who….

1. Is a young, under the age of 26 would be nice.
2. Has played more then one season in the Majors.
3. Already displays obvious talent.
4. Has the potential to exceed expectations with some direction.
5. Needs to be an Outfielder.
6. *Fast On The Bases

*big factor

Tampa Bay Ray’s BJ Upton could solve this problem, with a close second going to St. Louis Cardinal’s Matt Holliday. BJ Upton is just 24 years old and had a good season considering he is coming off major shoulder surgery.

Upton’s 2009 season stats finished with a batting averageof.241, OBP .313, 55 RBI, 79 runs scores and an astonishing 42 stolen bases. His 2007 season was his best, hitting 24 home runs in addition to 82 RBI.

No one will deny the potential for this youngster and with the right direction the results could be enormous.Upton is Rays starting center fielder.

His range defensively is excellent but he has seemed sluggish and lazy more then just on one occasion. It would seem that a move to another ball club is just the spark this kid needs.

Upton ended 2009 season by dazzling the Bombers, as he hit for a cycle on a night when CC Sabathia was starting at the Trop. This was a first in regards to HUGE achievements for the youngster, and the first for the Rays organization as well.

What a nice confidence booster going into the off-season and gives BJ a lot to think about. Upton has the potential to be a big star. His attitude just needs some guidance and no better place to get it than in the Bronx. Continue reading ‘The Yankees Could Be Moving On Up….A Ton’ »

The 3 Teams of the American League East

The American League Eastis hands down going to be the toughest division race, yet again. I am not

saying this cause I am a Yankees fan but as a baseball fan. The top three teams being Tampa, Boston and New York are all loaded with star players, old rivalries and new ones that have started.

The second half, the middle-man being the All-Star break of this long baseball season begins and with it comes a fresh start. Let the races begin….

The Rays are hungry as they tasted what it is liek to get to the Championship and how awesome it is to win, they learned that first-hand watching the Phillies celebrate a tough world series for both teams played well. I have said it all season that these Rays are hungry, young and so talented I almost slip-up on the teams name. “Talented Bay Rays” are hungry and it looks like the sneak attack has begun.
The average age is 26 and already household names with Longoria, Crawford, Garza, Shields, Uptown, Pena and that is just to name a few.

MY ADVICE: All in the Rays path better get ready cause watch out, cause here they come.

The Red Sox are the new Yankees. They have been solid and consistent all season never really hitting a slump like most teams. Everyone participates, all the players are good. Continue reading ‘The 3 Teams of the American League East’ »
