Since the MLB off-season is a snooze so far, here is a fan video that will give you a laugh.
You might have already seen this kid’s video pop-up on other sports sites but I had to share it because it is hilarious. It also explains how young the anger starts for Philadelphia Eagles fan.
As this kid really HATES New England Patriots QB Tom Brady, as this video was filmed during the November 28 game between the Eagles and Pats……aka the Philly Massacre at the hands of Tom Brady who won the game 38-20.
ENJOY…but please try to block out when the kids dad offers for him to take a swing at the TV, another glimmer of fine American parenting at work.
Picking only one of the four NFL Wild Card game winners last weekend coincides lock, stock and barrel with how the regular season played out…Completely unpredictable.
Fans, reporters and even ESPN couldn’t be sure of anything week to week. It was like watching Jekyll and Hyde football, and it has continued right into the playoffs.
So this week I am taking a different approach, not with the previews but with my predictions. Normally, logical stats, knowledge and history would be used to guess the winners. Since my Wild Card picks bombed, this weekend I will flip a coin to determine my choice.
Maybe it is a magic penny; guess we will know shortly, so let’s get to the game previews for this Sunday’s match-ups:
The Bears, like everyone else, were expecting to see the reigning Superbowl Champion Saints in Chicago this weekend—that is until the Seahawks proved they could to win.
Instead of falling at the mercy of the mighty champs as most teams with a 7-9 record would, the Seahawks were almost flawless.
This was a Hawks team that nobody could believe were in the playoffs in the first place. The problem for the Saints was that the Seahawks have faith in themselves. The Seahawks were down 10-0 and 17-7 in the first half, but they fought back.
Seattle’s QB Matt Hasselback surely didn’t play like the leader that had an under .500 season, going 272 yards and throwing four touchdowns. He and RB Marshawn Lynch will have to be superb once again, with zero margins for error against a lethal Bears defense.
The Seahawks’ defense can lose this game if they don’t step it up against Bears QB Jay Cutler. Giving up 400 yards will not win the underdogs another game, and in the playoffs it shouldn’t anyway.
Jay Cutler can be rattled into throwing bad pass routes right into opponent’s hands and he is not known to fight back when he’s down. Cutler plays the blame game on everyone except himself; but he knows in the playoffs egos get checked at the door. Still, the Seahawks defense has to blitz and be aggressive.
Statistically and logically this game favors the Bears over the Seahawks on every level. Also, the Bears are coming off a bye week, well rested and for a game at home in Chicago.
The question remains whether the Seahawks believe this, because last week they sure didn’t think they shouldn’t have been exactly where they won…The Playoffs.
And the COIN says: Tails…Seahawks win.
Never underestimate the underdogs, as a New York Giants fan I can promise you that if they believe, they will achieve.
The 2010 New York Giants have been pretty on-target with the rest of the NFL’s motto, which is completely unpredictable.
There is no leader of the pack as we enter the second half of the season. Never have more teams been named the best team in the NFL this season on ESPN after 10 games.
This is not due to an influx of sheer talent, but more due too penalties and sloppy play.
It seems like each team has a major flaw somewhere, and too many players just don’t seem to understand the definition of team anymore.
Now that my ulcer has subsided after watching the Giants host the Dallas Cowboys this past Sunday, I can admit that the outcome came as no surprise.
The Giants went into Sunday on a five-game winning streak, but the G-men started the season 1-2 and the one win was one of the sloppiest games I had seen.
The Cowboys record was an NFL worst at 1-7 before week 10. Add that to another Tony Romo injury, and a team of players who actually admitted they didn’t try.
Just thinking about how bad in it was Dallas made me sweat thinking of how pissed-off stanch owner Jerry Jones had to be, while having flashes if it were my New York Yankees not trying and the heads that would be rolling.
Jones finally fired coach Wade Phillips, promoting offensive coordinator Jason Garrett, who, it has been said, could run for president and win if he wanted to.
Then days before Sunday I look at the point spreads, which was obviously in favor of the Giants but by 15 points.
That spread seemed ridiculous if you consider the talented slackers on the Cowboys, a new motivated leader in Garrett and a team with nothing to lose.
This shocked my confidence, along with hearing the next day: “We’re now the best team in the National Football League,” out of Brandon Jacobs’ mouth.
The formula didn’t look to be in the Giants favor, as a cocky attitude and with a spread backing that notion up has never worked for the G-men.
The Giants are the best underdogs in football. Hopefully the embarrassing 33-20 thrashing they got from the Cowboys will put the Giants back to feeling that reality again.
The Giants are a darn good football team, and Sunday’s loss also was due to Eli having one of his seasonal off-games.
Manning has one to three of these games a season, where he can’t hit the slot and the receivers start to run the routes differently to compensate as the game gets deeper. But the defense sucked too.
Even with the Cowboys being hyped up, the Giants are a better team.
When a team consistently wins for five games in a row, the way the G-men did, one stomach-churning loss can be hailed as a bad day.
The Giants will surely be tested in Week 11 visiting the Philadelphia Eagles.
It is one of the best performances by a quarterback ever, thanks to the Eagles’ Michael Vick. Scoring 45 points in the first half was all due to Vick, and if this guy keeps getting better, I do not know anyone who can stop him.
Considering Vick outplayed the entire Redskins team himself, it will take the best team in the NFL to beat him.
What perfect timing for the Giants to prove themselves worthy of that title again.

The week prior to the start of the 2009 NFL season, a friend who happens to be a die-hard New York Jets fans and season-ticket holder told me an impressive story.
This friend had received a voicemail from new Jets coach Rex Ryan. Ryan had a request for all Jets fans to be as loud as possible for the Jets’ home opener against their division rival New England Patriots.
Any NFL fan knows the Jets have been a joke, and the Patriots are the scions of the league.
My reaction was “WOW.” I was thoroughly impressed. Admittedly, a little jealous too as a lifelong New York Giants fan because it made a fan know his importance to his team. My jealousy faded fast once I remembered this was the Jets, but if Ryan got the team playing—God bless him.
Well, it worked because the 2009 Jets went to the playoffs and that is more than I can say for my Giants.
So when HBO announced that the Jets would be the new team features on Hard Knocks, I was excited. I had admired coach Ryan’s energy and now could see first-hand how he worked his magic in training camp. I was excited.
Then, to my utter disappointment, coach Ryan is not the leader I thought he was going to be. Dropping the f-bomb left and right, while acting like a buddy rather than a coach.
Where was the line of respect or order? Surely, a team like the Jets could not be lead by a man who was more concerned about the cameras than the players.
One pathetic scene was when Ryan was doing check-in one evening at training camp chanting “Revis, where are you?” over and over again.
Looking back on the last 10 years, you forget how much has happened that is now a part of sports history.
What accomplishments or events did fans’ get to watch that will never be forgotten?
It seems that athletes off the field antics caused most of the buzz, a few examples being Michael Vick, Jason Williams, Roger Clemens, Plaxico Buress, A-rod and the latest being the destruction of Tiger-mania.
Sometimes a reminder that the athlete did not fail to impress in any way; it was the trademark of the athlete that took the greatest hit since the start of the century in 2000.
In Part One of What A Decade, let’s remember the real athletic achievements that happened only on the court, field, course, at the pool etc. The marks made that have changed the sports world for good.
To capture the essence of the years of 2000 to the present, I asked friends and family to help out. The question was straightforward, “What’s the top, within this past decade, sporting event that stands-out in your mind? One, that will never be forgotten because its impact was so great?”
In no order, here’s the top answers, along with videos of the memories:
1) Even as a Yankee fan, no one can or will ever forget the game that broke a curse dating back to 1918.
Finally, after 86 years the Boston Red Sox were the World Series Champions and they did it again just three years later in 2007.
In the 2004 ALCS being down 0-3 to their rival Yankees, the Red Sox fate seemed bleak. Boston fan’s never-ending frustration finally got the wake-up call of a century. The Red Sox were about to lose the series in the ninth inning in-game four, but as we all know that did not happen.
The Boston Red Sox fought back from the hardest spot possible, but giving-up just was not sufficient to this team anymore.
The Red Sox finally were the World Series Champions; a position that was well deserved. For Boston, it was the proudest day in the city’s history because the fans never gave-up either.
2) In 2001, Nascar’s most devastating loss ever imagine, the impact also changed the sport itself for the better.
During the final lap at, on the last curve at the Daytona 500, driver Dale Earnhardt died in a horrific accident. Earnhardt’s death is still breaking Nascar drivers and fans hearts today, as their hero who can never be replaced.
Still surreal, Earnhardt’s death still lives in the reality that made drivers realize their own mortality and it changes racing forever. Nascar’s non-existing safety rules were now going to change by not being left up to the driver’s own discretion ever again.
Dale Earnhardt’s influence is clear, and the racing world will never be the same without him.
3) Tiger Woods, the golfer became the most well-known sports figure in the world. Over the last decade, his accomplishments on the golf course have surpassed what anyone could have imagined.
At the start of the decade, Woods became the 2000 PGA Player of the Year. Just two years later in 2002, Tiger won his second consecutive Masters green jacket, second US Open making him the youngest player ever to have seven cardinal wins at the age of 27.
In dramatic fashion, the 2008 US Open gave Tiger won his 14th major title overcoming the pain of recent knee surgery the golfer limped of after the last hole. It will go down as one of the most prolific moments in not only PGA history but as the greatest example of what a true champion is that the sports world has ever seen.
4) In sports, the story where a David beats a Goliath makes the assumption ‘dreams can come true’ feasible for anyone.
That is why the 2007 New York Giants feat of winning the Super Bowl is cemented as a top example of it. Playing as a team to lose and against all probability the G-men’s season ended with a loss to the undefeated New England Patriots. Who knew that a loss could be the greatest win for a team in NFL history?
Heading into the playoff’s, the Giants started in Tampa Bay; next stop Dallas to beat the Cowboys; to the frigid temperatures of Green Bay, WI to finish the Packers. Shocking the sports world, these GIANT underdog’s by all calculations were heading to Arizona to face the Golith-like-Patriots. With the point spread at 13, not in their favor, the Giants maintained a swagger about them that was intoxicating.
With perhaps the greatest game-deciding catch ever, by WR David Tyree (who had only caught four passes all season long), the New York Giants showed the world that how having the bigger heart will always be a champion over a bigger head.
5) Talk about smoking the competition?
That is exactly what Michael Phelps did, and I am referring to his abilities in the swimming pool. The total amount of metals won in the Olympics is 16, but with eight golds all happening in the 2008 Games. Overall making Phelps the distinguished record-holder for most gold metals won in a single Men’s Olympic Game, in history.
The 14 gold and two bronze metals makes Michael the most decorated Olympian ever to compete in the games. This past summer, Phelps broke his 37 World Record on August 2, and he is just 24 years old.Phelps won the World Swimmer of the Year Award in 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009. After the historic eight golds in Beijing, rightly so Michael Phelps won the 2008 Sports Illustrated Magazine Sportsman of the Year Award. (won too many numerous awards to list)
Being so young and already accomplishing more then most nations, Michael Phelps is just starting. The excitement and possibilities about what else this athlete can perform is pretty much anything he wants too.
6) The first witnessing of this athlete was undoubtedly something that would be difficult to ignore.
His last name fits him as well as his track shoes, Usain Bolt of Jamaica is by far the fastest sprinter to participate in the sport.
Standing at 6’5 and just turning 22 years old, this guy is not only beating World Records by a landslide. Bolt is single-handily earning the respect for a much tarnished sport in need of a super-god. Bolt only realized his talent merely seven years ago in his homeland of Jamaica.
He has bolted into being the best ever in the history. He hit the 100-meter world record in May 2008 after only running that span a handful of times. Usain not only holds the record for the 100-meter, but the 200-meter as well.
On August 20, 2009, Bolt beat a 12-year standing World Record for the 200-meter. It has previously been held by the USA’s Michael Johnson.
Bolt ran the 200-meter in 19.19 seconds, the new World Record. Usain Bolt is lightening on the track and it is something that no one might ever see again in sports history.
There are so many moments over the past ten years that contain personal meaning to individuals all around the world. The above is just the tip from the various answers received.
As a whole, we all forget that these athletes are rewriting the record books right in front of our eyes.
The achievements of the first decade in a new century, is one where the world of sports has provided more stimulating, undeniably phenomenal memories then any fan could ever ask for.
A Giant won, a Jet soared and a Yankee guaranteed that New York is the best place to call home.
Three sports team, hailing from New York had simultaneous starts this afternoon (Yanks not on time due to rain delay).
The Yankees, Giants and Jets each had something to prove today.
1. The Yankees was clinching the American League East Division for the playoffs which gives them home field advantage and an extra day off at their disposal.
The biggest upside for the Bombers not having to fly back to Anaheim to play the Angels in the first round. The Angels are that that scary.
Realizing why the Yanks looked like a beaten club, even when they beat the Angels are because the Angels play small ball, long ball and run the bases fiercely. Easily, the Angels have the most comparable batting line-up to the Yankees so pitchers have to be virtually perfect. The Angels are relentless in winning and their formula works.
No one is taking anything away from having to face the Tigers or the Twins to start, as both talented ball clubs. Being at home is comfortable, familiar and starting with having an entire city cheering you on beats flying across the country to face a team residing in Anaheim.
2. The Giants are still looking like the solid champs of two years back. Big Blue won their third game in a row, a great way to start the season and one with so many unanswered questions.
The question of wide receiver has been a continuous tryout to see who would be Eli’s new Plaxico. This looming question is far from an answer. Actually, it might never really get a solid answer.
The Giants do not need an answer but this third win in a row means the team does not want one either. The rotating group wide receivers are being lead by a solid Eli Manning at quarterback. Maybe that is the answer at least part one.
Part two, three and four being the defense, O-line and running game all being top of their game gives the wiggle room for Coach Coughlin to have season long tryouts.
3. The Jets who have been the football version of the Mets. Predicted going into the season to be good to leave fans with one disappointing loss after another. That has been the theme of the Jets, one letdown after another. Always with one glimmer of what could have been at least once a season. This entailed beating some team, that even shocked the Jets themselves, leaving a worn out fan base to see that maybe next year will be better.
Welcome to that next year Jet fans.
Those Jets of the past can stay in the past. That is now a fact after defeating Tennessee Titans to go 3-0 to start the season. It might seem like a dream but it’s not and after today you can relax because last weekends win was not just luck.
It was a mini Super Bowl for Jets fans as their division mates, the mighty Patriots came to the Meadowlands and lost last week. As a Giant fan I have to say I was impressed and happy for the Jets to look finally competitive.
Rex Ryan is just the leader this team needed. Being in your first year as coach to have the players already playing for you (the coach) speaks volumes of the man Coach Ryan is. What he did against the Pats, leaving a voicemail for every season ticket holder asking the fans to cheer, obviously did more then just elevates noise. It made the players believe which in turn inspires and that are what champions are made off. The other New York team is a perfect example of that.
The day anyone thought that the notion or consideration of a possible Subway Series Super Bowl would be anything more then just a really funny joke can nows make it a reality. If the two New York teams keep winning which means playing this well, all season long, it could happen.
It is early, it is the Jets but even more reason to have the faith in the now.
Sunday has become a favorite day of the week during the NFL season. This Sunday was no different but my Giants were the featured night game so I had the afternoon watch my Yankees.
Then I remembered that those Jets had talked so much trash all week about the New England Patriots. My first reaction was to feel badly for all my friends who are Jets fans.
Being a Jets fan in the last decade in NYC looked like a painful task. My encouraging words to think positively and then when you do win a Super-Bowl it makes it all worth it.
Hopeless faces would have a moment in which this came true. J-E-T-S Jets, Jets, Jets…to only snap back to reality. Only had to look around and see the Giants jerseys everywhere to know who ruled the city.
When Rex Ryan started the intentional feud against Bill Belichick and his Pats, it took me by surprise. The Patriots and the Jets both AFC East teams could not have been more different. The Patriots are champions and the Jets lose.
Is this new coach a complete idiot? Is he trying to get his team killed or just wants to set a new NFL record for losing by the most points EVER in a game?
The comment turned into a full out attack by the Jets players. Declaring the fact of how the Patriots were doomed on Sunday. I just was so happy that my Giants were not the Jets.
As kickoff was just minutes away my phone rang and it was one of my Jets friends who was heading out to the Meadowlands for the game. He was so shocked as he got a voice-mail that morning from Rex Ryan asking for the fans to be louder than ever today for their Jets.
Now, with the Jets last few seasons it could not have been an easy task to ask of Jets fans. Just listening to the spark in my Jets pal’s voice had me realize, maybe this was just pure genius of Coach Ryan.
Why?
What did they have to lose as losing is nothing new to the Jets or their devoted fans.
The stadium was so loud at points the game had to stop three times. The fans stepped up to the plate but this time so did the Jets.
For a Jets fan, it must have been a feeling that had been long, long forgotten. Winning that game, talking that trash and realizing that the fans were still there it might have been a change for future years for the franchise.
My response to people asking me my opinion on the whole situation is that it was necessary and took courage to do. Either way the game could have ended up, the up side to the win was critical.
I am not a Jets fan (Giants) but your actions this past week were inspiring. I was genuinely happy for the Jets to finally win.
Being a Giants fan my loyalty is with Eli and company but nothing wrong with enjoying another team’s glories.
It speaks volumes as a new coach to have a team in which the players really play for you. That can takes years to build and some coaches cannot ever get the players motivated.
Like Coach Coughlin, tough love done fairly earns respect.
Now when you play my Giants this season it will actually be a football game.
All the best,
Kate
All the negative emails I never responded to, there is my answer.
The Jets finally have someone who believed in them before they won the first game in years that actually made a statement on Sunday. It was their Coach Rex Ryan.
The Giants had no one believe in them in the Super Bowl against the same team and then Coach Coughlin changed that.
