Will the Bronx Bombers be standing come October?

Where will the Bronx Bombers, and the 29 other teams be standing come October?

Do you know how each division will look at the end of the 2012 MLB season?

Well, I guess it is the perfect time to make some predictions, so might as well start with mine.

Here is how I think the 2012 divisional standings will look at the end of September; and please feel free to leave your opinion as it is encouraged.

If only I were a psychic…. Continue reading ‘Will the Bronx Bombers be standing come October?’ »

New York Yankees: You Won’t Want To Miss This Event

English: Jorge Posada (#20, left) with Mariano...

Tomorrow New York Yankees fan will have to say goodbye to Jorge Posada, as according to MLB.com he will officially announce his retirement from baseball in a press conference at the Stadium.

Personally, saying goodbye to another piece of the infamous Yankees Core Four will numb my joy for the New York Giants trip to Super Bowl XLVI for a moment.

Ironically, when I think about it Posada actually personifies this Giants team because he played old school baseball.

Jorge was tougher than nails, and brought a go hard or go home attitude that subconsciously motivates others to win.

So now, after 17 seasons, of going to a Yankee game to see Posada and chant “Hip, Hip Jorge” has to come to an end tomorrow. Even knowing that this day was coming still doesn’t change the fact that feels way to soon.

For now, let us all wish Jorge Posada the best in his future endeavors but I hope he knows the joy he brought everyday to his fans, this city and the Yankee pinstripes. And say Thank You.

“Saying goodbye doesn’t mean anything. It’s the time we spent together that matters, not how we left it” – Trey Parker, creator of South Park. Continue reading ‘New York Yankees: You Won’t Want To Miss This Event’ »

New York Yankees: Who Said It Was Easy To Wave Adios

Posada on the mound vs. Red Sox - Yankees Stadium - 08/08/2010

Even in the wake of New York’s football Giants trouncing of the Atlanta Falcons 24-2 to advance to the next round in the NFL playoffs, I couldn’t shake this sense of loss from the back of my mind.

I knew what it was, and it didn’t even come as a shock when earlier in the week ESPN’s Buster Onley reported that New York Yankee Jorge Posada was planning to retire. Even knowing the possibility of this happening, as it has loomed for some time, still didn’t make the reality of it any easier to swallow.

This is saying goodbye to one of the great ones, something that not just Yankee but all baseball fans will if not miss, certainly respect.

I feel very blessed to have grown up in New York City watching Jorge Posada’s entire 17-year career in pinstripes.

I was always in awe of his confidence as a player. Whether it was behind the plate or hitting from either side of it, Posada was a fierce competitor who aspired to win.

And win Posada did, as he was the Yankees catcher in 125 postseason games, which led to four World Series Championships 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2009. He won all four with fellow teammates Derek Jeter, Andy Pettitte and Mariana Rivera, which formed the infamous Yankees “Core Four,” which is now down to just two.

I saw him catch the last pitch in the old Yankee Stadium in 2008, and hit the first home-run in the new one in 2009. I saw him lead David Wells to perfection in 1998, catch the last pitch of the 2000 World Series in Shea Stadium and was beyond proud to see him represent the AL in five All-Star Games. New York Yankees: Adios Jorge

It hurt to hear it from the horse’s mouth, but Jorge Posadamade one thing very clear, his time in Yankee pinstripes is over.

Jorge Posada

This past Wednesday night at his annual event for The Jorge Posada Foundation in New York City, ESPN New York reported Posada’s exact words:

“It’s not gonna happen. I don’t think there is even a percentage of a chance that I can come back. “I will always be a Yankee. The New York Yankees, for me, is my second family. It’d be tough to put on another uniform for real and learn a new set of rules. But it’s one of those things where I have to see if I wanna keep playing.”

Well, let me tell Jorge Posada that it is just as hard for Yankees fans to see you go.

There is no doubt in my mind that the time for Posada and the Yankees to part ways is now. Yankee fans had an entire season to process this, but it is never as simple as it seems when the time comes to say goodbye.

So now all you can do is say thank you, for being a role model, a tireless competitor and for giving New York a reason to be proud.

Hip-Hip-Jorge!

Detroit Tigers Pitcher To New York Yankees “It’s (ALDS) over!”

José Valverde

Following a must win ALDS Game Two victory vs. the New York Yankees, reporters were in the visitors locker-room surrounding the Detroit Tigers players asking about the 5-3 win in the Bronx.

The Tigers closer, Jose Valverde who is known for his idiotic actions following a save, as well as his perfect 49 saves in 49 opportunities in the 2011 regular season also has a big mouth.

As reported via Tim Brown on Yahoo Sports, Valverde started off by stating, “It’s over.”

When asked what he was talking about, Valverde responded:

“This,” he said. “Two more games. When are the games? Monday and Tuesday? Tuesday we celebrate and that’s it.”

Valverde went on to say he was kidding, but that kind of statement has to have some truth behind it.

Especially after Ian Begley of ESPN New York reported that Valverde gave the same guarantee that this ALDS is the Tigers already to the Spanish-speaking media

“I think the series will finish in our house,” Valverde told ESPN Deportes’ Enrique Rojas and other outlets. “They have a good team, but the series is not (coming) back to New York.”

This coming from a pitcher who was about a hit away from blowing the Tigers chances of winning Game 2.  Continue reading ‘Detroit Tigers Pitcher To New York Yankees “It’s (ALDS) over!”’ »

Yankees Mo Makes History But His Eyes Are On October

Mariano Rivera celebrates a victory against th...

Congratulations to closer Mariano Rivera, for achieving a baseball milestone clocking his 600th career save, and leading the New York Yankees to a 3-2 win against the Mariners on Tuesday night.

The perpetually humble Rivera hugged his teammates before telling YES’s Kim Jones that the team won is what was important. Mo also went on to say:

First of all, I have to thank God, my wife and my kids. God gave (the cutter) to me. Thank God he gave it to me. (600) is a great number, don’t get me wrong, but I don’t look for those things.

Here are a few of Mo’s greatest career accomplishments:

-       600 Career Saves (only behind closer Trevor Hoffman who has 601).

-       42 Postseason Saves (most-ever).

-       12-time AL All-Star.

-       5-time Rolaids Relief Award Winner.

-       1999 World Series MVP.

-       2003 ALCS MVP.

-       5-time World Series Champion in 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2009.

All I can say, as a sports fan there are not many athletes that have, or ever will have such natural talent like Mariano Rivera.

All I can say, as a person is that there are not many human beings built like Mariano Rivera.

Mo is as unpretentious, as he is competitive. This man is a winner, a father, a husband and just an overall good person who never takes his accomplishments for granted. He is the greatest teammate. Continue reading ‘Yankees Mo Makes History But His Eyes Are On October’ »

New York Yankees: Good News, Bad News And Rays News

THE RAYS NEWS:

Playing October baseball in the Bronx is not an expectation or even a celebration it is an obligation.

Undeniably, New York Yankee fans are an entitled group. We have become so accustomed to clinching a playoff berth, whether it is as the Wild Card or the AL East Division Champs. And like my father says, “If I am going to pay that much money for a ticket to a Yankee game, I expect to see a Championship caliber team on the field.”

Without question the pressure comes with the pinstripes, and so do the paychecks but money cannot buy hard work and the Yankees work just as hard as everyone else.

A perfect example is the Tampa Bay Rays, who swept the Boston Red Sox this past weekend and now sit just 3 ½ games out of the AL Wild Card race.

The Rays went from a team in the hunt to an real threat to their AL East counterparts.

By losing 11 of their last 13 games, the Red Sox postseason fate is about to be decided on Thursday; when the Rays head up to Fenway Park for four-games set.

The Yankees were not doing any better, as they lost four in row but still held on to their 2-½ game lead, but for all the wrong reason.

No doubt the Bombers looked out matched in the first two games vs. Angels. Yes, the injuries to A-rod, Swisher, Cervelli and Martin all at once were not helpful. but the injury excuse is a reality for all MLB teams and whinnying just gives everyone a headache. Still, watching Jorge Posada replace Russell Martin in the second inning on Saturday afternoon certainly made Yankee fans realize how the team was badly banged up.

As a snap substitute, Posada did the job. Then on Sunday Yankee prospects Jesus Montero and Austin Romine got to début behind the dish. Montero managed to solidify why GM Brain Cashman has not promoted him yet, and his hot bat might muster him a DH role, but that is about it.

GOOD NEWS? BAD NEWS…INJURY UPDATES:

According to Pete Caldera of the Bergen Record, the good news is Russell Martin’s MRI only showed a bruised thumb, so he should be back in a few days. A-rod should be out for about the same length of time, as the cleanup hitter has a jammed thumb.

And now here is the bad news. Back-up Cervelli was on a plane back to New York after showing concussion symptoms following a bulldozing by Orioles Nick Markakis at homeplate. So, Cervelli status is TBD. Continue reading ‘New York Yankees: Good News, Bad News And Rays News’ »
