New York Yankees vs. New York Giants

Just two days after watching the New York Giants win their second Super Bowl in four years, it is hard not to dream of the Yankees capturing a World Series title.

Being on the brink of the 2012 MLB season, I got to thinking, what do the Giants have that the Yankees are missing?

So, I started writing down the advantages that both New York team’s posses and after mulling through two messy lists, below are the most important points.

ADVANTAGE YANKEES:

-        Have all-star roster in place.

-        The ‘Yankees’ brand itself.

-        Players want to be Yankees because of the illustrious history.

-        Yankees haven’t missed the playoffs in 15 seasons, except for 2008.

-        Most successful sports franchise ever, with 27 World Championships.

-        A generous ownership.

ADVANTAGE GIANTS:

-        QB/Captain who is really a team player, a quiet leader off the field, but not on; and just an overall good guy.

-        Players who call each other out publicly.

-        A Coach who stuck to his plan.

-        A stellar GM who makes incredible draft picks.

-        A team that talks the talk and walks the walk.

-        Team consists of an array of characters, but all have equal voices.

-        One of the most respected ownerships in sports today.

-        Fighters.

-        Believe in each other through and through.

These two lists are very broad because football and baseball are very different sports, but being a team is not.

New York Yankees: Jeter Infection Spreads to Super Bowl

The Yankees captain Derek Jeter has always been quite the heartthrob, and not with just the ladies.

It seems that the Jeter bug has hit Indianapolis this week, as not one but both Super Bowl XLVI quarterbacks admitted to having a serious man-crush on El Capitan.

Yes, that would be one Patriots Tom Brady and one Giants Eli Manning.

The two QB’s took time to slip in some words of absolute admiration for Jeter during their media day this past Tuesday.

Both Super Bowl bound guys are taken; Manning is married to his very attractive college girlfriend; and Brady goes home to Gisele…need I say more?

The New York Daily News quoted Brady, just two days ago, as saying:

“You see someone who plays the game the way you think it needs to be played, like Derek Jeter. I love the way he plays the game.”

New York Yankees: 2012 Resolution That’s Easy

Making a New Year’s resolution is a time-honored tradition, and after going to the gym today I can tell you that it is still done, as it was

jammed packed.

Certain resolutions are irresolvable; such as I will never win a World Series for the obvious reason that I am female. Regardless, the majority of living men in the world today are not even remotely talented enough to play in the minor leagues.

Now the above does not apply if your name is Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez or Mariano Rivera as not only have all three already been WS Champs, they have the opportunity to do it again but the window is closing.

The 2012 New York Yankees won’t look much different from 2011, as most know that this off-season has been lifeless thus far and I do not foresee any surprises prior to the start of Spring Training.

Luckily, the Yankees have the talent to be relevant without much change but with the looming retirement of Rivera, along with the ages of Jeter and A-rod make 2012 the last season that winning a World Series might still be manageable.

I don’t think fans realize what life in the Bronx will be like when Enter Sandman no longer plays at the Stadium in the ninth inning; or in two or three years when the team no longer has their Captain.

The time is now, and after being on-hand for the Game 5 of the 2011 ALDS one would hope that would be enough for the entire Yankee team to work harder this off-season. So at least the players would know that they did everything humanly possible not repeat another early exit again in 2012.

New York Yankees: Remembering The Top 6 Headlines From 2011

The New York Yankees and their fans are trying to forget how the 2011 MLB season ended, as losing the ALDS in five games at home was rough on everyone.

Still, with a New Year just days away gives the perfect reason to reflect on the noteworthy, and in 2011 a lot of historic Yankee memories were made.

So, here are the 6 newspaper headlines, some to be etched in Yankee Universe forever, but all had a significant part in the 2011 season; and ones I will never forget:

START SPREADING THE NEWS…and in specific order:

New York Yankees: Stop Blaming, Start Winning And Shut-Up

Stop blaming, start winning and shut-up…. is a lesson both the New York Giants and Jets could learn from the New York Yankees.

Both the Jets and Giants represent New York and the NFL, but these professionals act more like spoiled brats who just talk the talk, but can’t seem to walk the walk.

Have you ever heard a Yankees publicly blame his teammates; or whine about lack of fan support after a loss?

Did anyone overhear Derek Jeter & Co. complaining about Alex Rodriguez’s playoff choke after the Yankees lost ALDS Game 5 this past season?

No, and even if Jeter thought it, as A-rod did blow three series-winning at-bats, it would have been for a passing second because the Yankees win and lose as a team.

See, even my mother knows that the Yankees play every game with all they got, so why can’t the Jets and Giants do the same?

Speaking as a Giants fan, what pisses me off is that the talent is clearly there, but the attitude doesn’t match-up. No one knows which Giants ‘team’ is going to show up that day. And the worst part is I don’t think the Giants players do either because they seem to give-up, instead man-up.

Look, the Giants are not alone here, as I am sure many Jets, Cowboys and Eagles fans feel the same way each week but that doesn’t excuse it.

So, this weekend other than a Giants shellacking of the Jets, I hope the game does not embarrass New York, two of the city’s loyal fan-bases and the game of football itself.

As reality is if both teams play like they did last Sunday, we are in for a turbulent four-quarters on Saturday.

NOW…. ABOUT THE G-MEN:

New York Yankees: Party On Captain

New York Yankees Captain Derek Jeter is having a good ‘old time this off-season, and why the heck not.

As if you didn’t know already, Jeter is single again and slaying chicks all over NYC. And all I can say is party on Captain.

The NY Post’s Emily Smith and Tara Palmeri kindly found some of these women and reported that the Captain’s MO is a lady will “stay with him at his apartment in New York, and then he gets them a car to take them home the next day. Waiting in his car is a gift basket containing signed Jeter memorabilia, usually a signed baseball.”

Wow, I don’t know about any of you ladies but a ride and a present is not such a bad deal considering the circumstances.

You would have to be an idiot to think anything relevant might evolve from throwing the cat around town for a night with a guy who has as many options as Jeter does.

Jumping in the sack with Jeter is not going to make you stand out. And even you can suck a tennis ball through a garden hose, I will bet my life that Jeter has seen it, done it and had better. Continue reading ‘New York Yankees: Party On Captain’ »

New York Yankees Trade Rumors: Truth About Pujols

Could the New York Yankees GM Brian Cashman be pulling a Philly fast one by secretly going after the top free agent on the market, Albert Pujols?

The Yankees are one of the few, if not the only, team that could legitimately offer Pujols the money he wants; along with the stage and superstar teammates that will allow him to flourish.

Even though superstar Mark Teixeira now occupies first base, but where there is a will there is usually a way.

Maybe you did realize that Tex did make 11 starts at third base, logging 99 innings and committed seven errors back in 2003.

This leaves the Yankees with the two scenarios.

  1. Move Tex to third, A-rod to shortstop and Jeter to the outfield…and BAM now there is room for Prince Albert.
  2. Or keep the Captain at shortstop, Tex to third and A-rod can be the DH…and BAM another way to get Pujols in pinstripes.
