2012 MLB Team Preview: New York Mets

New York Mets logo.

Since their infamous 2007 collapse, the New York Mets just can’t seem to get a break.

Last season the Mets finished fourth in the NL East winning with a 77-85 record, which is not so bad considering the team was riddled with injuries.

The Mets and their fans have to believe that things will get better as I don’t know what else could go wrong.

So, can Mets fans start believing again or will 2012 prove to be another bust in Queens?

Let’s take a look….

THE POSITIVES:

Skipper Terry Collins could not be more perfect a leader for the Mets. Collins truly believes in the team and he manages with passion. The players respect and want to win for Collins because of the energy he brings day in and day out. As Collins heads into his second season in New York, the Mets will once again look for him to be their guide and he wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. As ex-Met Carlos Beltran once said, “He is a good man.”  And the Mets could not be luckier for it.

Welcome back Johan Santana! The Mets finally have their ace back and the even better news is that Santana has looked good in Spring Training. The last time Mets fans saw the two-time CY Young winner was September 2, 2010 so it will be a treat to have him take the mound at Citi-Field on Opening Day vs. the Braves. If Santana stays healthy and is pitching like he is capable, the Mets have a certified star at the top of their rotation again and he will win games.

Also take note that first baseman Ike Davis is back too after missing almost all of 2011; and this kid can rake. Baring that his ankle holds up and his Valley Fever doesn’t become an issue look for a big year from a seriously talented Davis.

New York Yankees: Pitching vs. Mets Schedule

Here are the probable pitchers for this weekends Subway Series at Yankee Stadium:

Freddy Garcia (2-3, 3.22) vs. R.A. Dickey (1-5, 5.08)

Tonight (My9 HD, 7 p.m.)

THINGS TO NOTE:

  • Both the Mets and Yankees are playing good baseball.
  • The Yankees line-up is hot right now beating up the Baltimore Orioles 25-5 in runs total in their last two games.
  • The Mets have won nine of their last 13 games.
  • The Mets will be sans 1B Ike Davis and 3B David Wright.
  • Judging by how much broader Citi-Field is the Amazins could have a field day in the stunted, homer-friendly Yankee Stadium.
  • Both of Friday’s starters, Dickey and Garcia are coming off their worst performances of the season and neither pitcher has any significant familiarity with the others line-ups.
  • Dickey’s knuckleball has been flat lately and if he can’t keep it down Alex Rodriguez, Curtis Granderson and Robinson Cano will feast on it.
  • In the eight at-bats against Dickey, A-Rod is batting .625, with five hits; Gardner is two for three, with a triple, two RBIs and .667 batting average.
  • Dickey has yet to give-up a home-run to any of the Yankees he will be facing on Friday night.
  • Garcia has to watch out for the blazing bat of Carlos Beltran, who just hit three-homers in one game against the Colorado Rockies. Beltran has faced Garcia 31 times, batting a .452, with 10 RBIs, three home-runs, two doubles and a triple.

UP NEXT……

A.J. Burnett (4-3, 3.99) vs. Chris Capuano (3-4, 4.78)

Saturday (FOX, 7 p.m.)

Ivan Nova (4-3, 4.33) vs. Mike Pelfrey (3-3, 5.11)

Sunday (YES HD, 1 p.m.)

MLB Hot Stove: Is Terry Collins the Other New York Team’s Answer To The Mess?

After the long overdue firing of skipper Jerry Manuel, the New York Mets owners announced the two-year signing of Terry Collins to be the franchises 20th skipper.

COLLINS BACKGROUND:

Collins started his pro career as a shortstop drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1971.

Over the next 10 years, Collins played for the Pirates and Los Angeles Angels, but only in the minors.

In 1981, Collins started managing in the minors, but this time he did break in to the majors. From 1993-99, he managed the Houston Astros and Los Angeles Angels.

COLLINS AND HIS MESS:

No doubt this new venture will be Collins hardest because the Mets are in dire straits.

See, unlike the other New York team, winning is not a word in the Mets vocabulary. Of course, neither is leadership, sportsmanship, respect, healthy or any other positive aspect used to describe a quality baseball team.

So, the question remains: Is Terry Collins the man who can right the Mets back from mediocrity? Continue reading ‘MLB Hot Stove: Is Terry Collins the Other New York Team’s Answer To The Mess?’ »

Lady Gaga Stay Away From Baseball

Lady Gaga, please stay away from baseball games and don’t come back to Yankee Stadium or Citi-Field again.

Hasn’t she embarrassed her family and friends enough?

Fondling herself and dressing with no pants at a Mets game, and then at a Yankees game is just impolite. Gaga seems to think this behavior is acceptable because of her fame, when the effects are actually making her a joke.

Here is a little personal information, Lady Gaga and I both attended the same school in NYC. In the beginning, it seemed so cool that this pop star walked the same halls I did. That sentiment has completely changed.

As time went on, Gaga’s behavior and fashion sense continued to get worse. Hearing that she went to a bar on the UWS in her underwear is just gross.

Also, Gaga lies about our school, a place that is so dear to my heart.

This Roman Catholic School is the most loving place to grow as a lady. The rules were not much different when compared to my friends at the non-denominational private schools. The faculty implemented manners and students were expected to conduct themselves accordingly.

Gaga needs to get her head out from her ass because her behavior would be unacceptable anywhere. Continue reading ‘Lady Gaga Stay Away From Baseball’ »

Proud To Be In Pinstripes….And It Only Took A Week!

My Yankees have had quite a week. A week that was needed for so many reasons for any team on brink of the tipping point. Honestly, this past week could have been the most critical of the season for the team from the Bronx.

The Yanks are not by any means in a isolated or even close to secure spot. The route is the beginning to journey on a road that had to be walked down. Pluto is far gone in the universe and the Yanks do not want to go unseen like that.
As of Father’s day the Yanks were a four games out of first place, now just it just three. Does not sound like much to the non obsessed baseball fan but oh how wrong they are.
Breathing down the Yankees necks are Tampa and Toronto. These two divisional teams are one game behind each other and just one and two games behind the Yankees respectfully.
It had potential disaster. All three teams were playing well since the 21st of this month. Then you have to incorporate Boston into the mix. The Red Sox started to seem like our could have really made a gap into a bridge. Our hated rivals, how bad it could have been.
I was starting to forget that baseball games included hitting. The Yanks made it painful to watch top of each inning, during all this away inter-league play. The number of teammates jogging in from the first, second or third bases was becoming a fad like boyfriend jeans, really expensive with rips all over.
FYI….that has ended and boy did the team want to prove it. Everyone took part in this slaughtering with bats from Jeter to Cervelli to Pena.
And let’s give a warm welcome to Brett Garner! This guy has been on fire wherever and whenever he steps on the field. Becoming the biggest threat in a line-up of all-stars. It is nothing less than energizing. Continue reading ‘Proud To Be In Pinstripes….And It Only Took A Week!’ »
