Yankees Universe trumps Red Sox Nation

DON’T MESS WITH TEX…

Don't mess with TEX....just ask any Red Sox fan.

What started out as a Yankees blowout in Fenway Park, ended in New York win.

Starting pitcher Freddy Garcia was worse than horrible, as he even made Phil Hughes look good.

The Red Sox feasted on Garcia’s inability to pitch. Boston had a 9-0 lead come the 5th inning and things were not looking good for the Yankees.

Than Mark Teixeira hit a homer in the 6th inning, score was 9-1.

Next came Nick Swisher who hit a grand slam in the 7th inning, score was 9-5.

Same inning still and Tex wasn’t down yet as he hit another bomb, with two men on base, score was now 9-8.

By the bottom of the 8th inning, the Yankees had a comfortable 15-9 lead.

Rafael Soriano took over the mound for Boone Logan in the middle of the inning, finished out the game, and got the W.

Overall, it was a great day in Yankee Universe.

2012 MLB Team Preview: Boston Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox were the talk of sports after the 2011 season, but for all the wrong reasons.

After missing the playoffs on the last day of the season, revelations started pouring out about players’ lack of discipline in the clubhouse, as a collective group took to partying during games instead of supporting their teammates.

For Boston Fans, the humiliation from last season’s nightmare still lingers and now it is up to the players to earn back their trust.

Nothing is worse than underachieving when you have oodles of proven talent but lack the attitude to go with it.

As the great Vince Lombardi once said, “It’s not whether you get knocked down; it’s whether you get up.”

Now the question is do the 2012 Red Sox have the drive to work themselves back to the top in the face of adversity?

Let’s see how things are shaping up in Beantown:

THE POSITIVES:

The biggest positive for the Red Sox is that 2012 brings a fresh start so they can get things back on track again. The organization needs to show that last season will never be repeated, as their loyal fans deserve that. This has been a contending team enough times in the last decade to know how to win and there are no more excuses…THE PARTY IS OVER.

The Red Sox offense is almost the same as 2011, which is a good thing as the bats were the best in baseball. Collectively the Boston bats led the Majors last season in RBIs (842), doubles (352), hits (1600), runs (875), total bases (2631), OBP (.349), and slugging (.461). They hit the third most homers with 203 and had the second best batting average posting a .280. This line-up is terrifying and is littered with All-Stars like Jacoby Ellsbury, Dustin Pedroia, Adrian Gonzalez, Kevin Youkilis and David Ortiz.

New York Yankees: Leave Bobby V to the Bombers fans

The New York Yankees are hosting the Boston Red Sox today in a meaningless Spring Training game, but one that you might not want to miss.

Yankee fans will tune in and not for the baseball but to see what crap Red Sox skipper Bobby Valentine will pull during the game.

Valentine has already started a feud, at least in his head, by taking jabs at both the Yankees Captain Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez.

It seemed a little desperate even by Valentine’s standards but he attempting to create a semi-diversion from the Boston booze-hounds that were so sauced they forgot to play baseball last season; which ultimately led to the Red Sox blowing the season and missing the playoffs.

Just yesterday, Valentine decided it was a smart move to say, “See ya,” and wave goodbye to Miami Marlins Ozzie Guillen as he was walking by the Red Sox dugout after being ejected from the game for having a rift with the first base umpire.

Ozzie told the Sun Sentinel’s Juan Rodriguez that he didn’t hear Valentine but did make sure to strike back by stating:

“I would have told him to go f— himself, too. That’s the way Ozzie Guillen is.”

Whether yesterday was a dress rehearsal or not, odds of Valentine pulling something in Tampa are high and expect it to directly aim to piss off Yankee fans.

New York Yankees: Alex Rodriguez the comedian

New York Yankees Alex Rodriguez has come along way since first donning the pinstripes in 2004, and not under the easiest of circumstances.

The self-inflicted bumps along the road seem to be behind the 36-year old, and I must admit that A-rod has given me a good laugh so far this spring.

Following an off-season with no popcorn incidents, no steroid admissions or opt-outs, A-rod seems more comfortable in his own skin now more than ever. And my guess is this will translate into a solid season for the slugger.

Hey and if after the baseball thing, A-rod should consider becoming a comedian with his recent quotes.

On all the Lin-sanity going on in New York surrounding Knicks emerging star Jeremy Lin, A-rod asked:

“If he’s still looking for a place to crash, maybe he can crash at my apartment? Imagine the tabloids then.”

And just a couple of days later, when the Red Sox new skipper Rex Ryan, I mean Bobby Valentine was asked about the pending retirement of now ex-Captain Jason Varitek, he couldn’t help but take another dig at the Yankees by adding “He was able to beat up Alex. New York Yankees: Deja vu for Bobby Valentine

Turning boozehounds and bad attitudes into competitive and team oriented baseball players will be no easy task, even for Bobby Valentine.

It is no secret that the newly minted Red Sox manager will have his hands full in Boston. And the sports world will be watching as Valentine once again aims to clean up another mess of a team like he did with that other New York team, the Mets back from 1998-2000.

Back in his Mets days it was for New York bragging rights, at a time when the Yankees were the sports worlds favorite sons.

Now with Boston the odds are not as stacked against Valentine because the Red Sox have the talent to win but do they have the heart is the question.

Valentine does have one familiarity that relates to both his past and future tenure, and that is the New York Yankees.

The last time he was in an MLB uniform as the Mets skipper, he saw the Yankees win the World Series for the 26th time.

And now, in his MLB return, Valentine has signed on to wear a uniform that is about as anti-Yankee, a Red Sox one that still has beer on it from 2011.

To Walk In A Mets Fan’s Shoes

Hearing and reading all the baseball predictions, I started to imagine what if I were a Mets fan.

For the fourth straight season, the New York Mets are predicted to be contenders.

Reports of players working extra hard this off-season give false hopes in the eyes of the disgruntled fans. Even Jose Reyes is ready to turn around the team.

Should or could Mets fans trust the team again?

Only with real hesitation and coming to terms with a mindset of hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst.

It is up to the Mets organization to get back to amazin’ again, and a managerial change is anticipated in my opinion.

My guess or convictions lead me to forecast the fictitious newspaper article below to be the turning point:

‘HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY METS FANS!’

Welcome back, Bobby Valentine! The Mets have officially named Valentine the Manager for the second.

 
Valentine, replaces current manger Jerry Manuel.

Mid-season 2008, Mets GM Omar Minaya‘s most improper firing of Willie Randolph, lead the Mets to select Manuel as his successor. Hence, the group has been nothing but Un-Amazin since.

With the team on the cusp of being in real contention, Minaya cannot afford another failure or he will get the axe next.

Unfortunately, for Manuel getting just swept by the Mariners, and with Reyes appearing frisky again, a change is needed.

Valentine, was in this same place in 1996 and turned around a struggling Mets team; leading them to two consecutive post-season appearances, and a trip to the 2000 World Series.

Valentine only past issue Mets GM Steve Phipps did not see eye to eye at all, which ended in Valentine getting fired. Phipps was Minaya’s mentor, so surely Minaya pushed personal issues aside and proves his priorities are genuine.

When Valentine left the Mets, he had substantial success as a manager in Japan. This is a good fit for both sides.

Manuel is lucky to have been given the opportunity to try again with a healthy Mets team; but he even knew any signs from the past would be a wave goodbye.

Baseball is not a game where you get a lot of chances; it is too unpredictable and the Mets front-office made the right move.
