Blue Jays vs. Yankees Weekend Pitching Match-ups

Over the last week, Yankees have been on cruise control in New York, winning games against two sub-pars teams, the Indians and Orioles.

Now, the Yankees head up to Toronto for their first series against the Blue Jays in 2010, at the Roger Centre.

The Blue Jays are no joke. Not only do they lead the majors with 91 homeruns, but also their young pitchers top all of baseball with 421 strikeouts with a combined 4.21 era.

Translation, the Blue Jays look strong from all angels and it does not surprise me at all.

The Blue Jays wait for Aaron Hill to get hot, as he is certifiably their best hitter. Hill has been dealing with on and off injury all season, but with his power added, the Blue-Jays line-up is lethal.

WHAT TO WATCH:

  • Pitching will be key, as on paper the match-ups break pretty evenly. Young vs. Veterans, can experience beat young at heart?

GAME 1: Ex-Blue Jay, AJ Burnett will open up the series against rookie Brett Cecil. Both pitchers are coming off great outings. Cecil he has to stay aggressive against the scary Yankee line-up, and good time for Posada to come back, he has two homeruns in five at-bats against Cecil. Burnett has to maintain control and continue to hit the corners, as he did in his last start. Burnett didn’t allow a walk against Baltimore, but does that even count against the O’s? Fantasy Update: Battle Of The Blogs

‘BATTLE OF THE BLOGS’

FANTASY LEAGUE UPDATE 05.01.2010:

April was not quite as successful for Lady Loves Pinstripes fantasy team, compared to my pure and very real New York Yankees.

Alex Rodriguez‘s struggles continue to plague my team. Arod’s performance is my tremendous advantage that has not been fruitful just yet.

Injuries have been difficult as Mike Cameron remains on the DL, recently joined by ace pitcher Jorge DeRosa and stints by Aaron Hill and Jason Werth whom are both back healthy. Werth is back to himself completely, thank god.

Now, left with Cameron and DeRosa on my DL. DeRosa is way to good to give-up, so he will stay put but Cameron still not convinced. Cameron has kidney stones and knowing how pro athletes come back way to quickly, this injury could touch him a lot more. Continue reading ‘Fantasy Update: Battle Of The Blogs’ »

Battle Of The Blogs

Double G Sports (check out his blog, it’s great) kindly invited me to join his fantasy baseball league Battle Of The Blogs” and we just had our draft.

It is a 20 team H2H (head to head) league on ESPN.com, with a six player keeper rule which means six players will carry over to next season fantasy season.

In the draft I had the first pick, and used it for NYY Alex Rodriguez, partly because of Albert Pujols has been bothered again by back spasms which are a concern, and partly out of loyalty.

Arod is healthy and will put up monster numbers this season, as he always has consistently. Automatically a keeper so please no time for negative Arod comments as he is on my team for better or for worse.

Any suggestion would be appreciated, as after multiple mock drafts my team is not my ideal and I could use the help.

The Jeter Family will have to build a house just for Derek’s awards. Now the one the means the most to our Captain (because only one he seems to not have won, other then a Cy Young) the MVP Award will be announced on November 23rd. Jeter is well in contention for this honor and I think he deserves it for so much more then just his stats alone.

And The Award Goes To…..

Gold Glove awards completed today, as MLB Award Season has officially started.

Spreading out nicely for the month after the World Series keeps talks and debates flowing. It also lightens the initial blow for baseball fans everywhere; whom are all adjusting to nights free of baseball.

Then before you know it, 2010 is upon us and hopes can fill fans hearts for the season to start.

My sincerest congratulations, to all the recipients thus far, who are in such an elite field.

Here are the 2009 Award Winners thus far (more to come):

COMEBACK PLAYER OF THE YEAR:

American League – Aaron Hill, 2B – Toronto Blue Jays

After suffering a concussion in 2008, Aaron Hills baseball future was in question. Hill’s determination to prove doubters wrong is a true inspiration that hard work can pay-off. Hill had only seven errors, with.991 fielding percentage and was first in home-runs (36), RBIs (108), total bases (340) and at-bats (682) out of all second baseman. This is after it took months for Hill just to ride a bike again.

National League – Chris Carpenter, SP – St. Louis Cardinals

Chris Carpenter finished the season with a record of 17-4 with a 2.24 ERA. Carpenter only allowed seven home-runs all season. Carpenter came back to baseball this season after being out since the playoffs in 2006. Tommy John surgery and then at his initial return a nerve damage in his shoulder, more surgery for the right-hander.In 2009 Carpenter came-back from it all and is in talk for the Cy Young Award as well.

DELIVERY MAN OF THE YEAR AWARD:

Mariano Rivera, RP – New York Yankees

This is the award for the best relief pitcher of the season. In the 2009 season, no question, no doubt that it could only be Mariano Rivera. Rivera is the greatest of all-time and at 40 years old he doesn’t seem to be slowing down. Gotta go to Mo!!
