As one might expect, thinking about the New York Mets and New York Yankees is not exactly a fan’s field of dreams.
The Yankees caught the injury bug; and the Mets are just being the Mets, if it is not one thing it is another.
The normally anticipated Subway Series is starting tonight, but the glory of New York City is what is at stake. The winning team’s colors will shine over the city at-top the Empire State Building after Sunday night’s game.
WHO NEEDS TO WIN IT MORE?
Obviously, the Mets have been so miserable, for so long that Mets fans could at least feel some satisfaction at home. It might not have the effect some hope, as false promises and broken dreams have been the hallmark of the Mets.
Personally, I think the Mets have to fire Jerry Manual and get a firecracker of a manager to assess and drive this team. They need to begin to fill the ballpark and gain confidence back again.
Even if, the Mets swept the World Series Champs, it is going to take a lot more than one Subway Series to get any street credit.
The Yankees have lost 8 of their last 12 games. No doubt, this group is injured in the worst way. What was their skill in starting pitching, has been imploding giving up 40 runs in the last 12 games.
The Yankees are now 5 games out of first place, and the Toronto Blue Jays are just a game back. The Yankees need to turn this around now. The Bombers love playing catch-up, but with so many veterans it could make a longer DL list, instead of another post-season run.
The Yankees should be able to take all three games, but this series is a lot more than that.
For the Mets and Yankees players it means different things.
As for the Yankees, they can not waste any more games no matter who or where they are playing. Not implying the Yankees do not want to win for their fans, but looking at the bigger picture.
The Yankees have given their fans plenty to be proud of already, so the hype is really just all about winning. Yankees want to repeat and so do their fans, the Mets just happen to share our home.
