2012 LLP weekly power rankings – week 18
Baseball fans everywhere are energized, as August is when things get really exciting and this year might rank with the best ever.
And thanks to the newly added Wild Card spots, and one of the most competitive seasons I have ever seen, dreams of October are very real for many more teams than in the past.
The pennant races are on in all three AL and NL divisions so get ready for a dogfight from here on out.
If the 2012 MLB regular season ends in any form like last year, get ready for a treat.
My prediction is that this year will be even better, and you can book that.
Now the New York Yankees fell off track a bit but seem to have righted the ship taking back the #2 ranking after splitting a series with hot Tigers; but the Nationals are still atop as the best team in the Bigs. But Washington’s #1 rank is hindering on some serious decisions that are yet to come.
Ok, just have a look for yourself, as here are LLP’s MLB weekly power rankings for week ending today, August 10, 2012.
ENJOY!!
RANK | TEAM | COMMENTS | LAST |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Washington Nationals | Strausburg decision will make or break this team. | 2 |
| 2 | New York Yankees | Spilt series with hot Tigers & where there is a will there is a way & this team knows how to win. | 3 |
| 3 | Texas Rangers | Josh Hamilton must be chewing again& Rangers are thrilled. Dempster has to be perfect. | 5 |
| 4 | Cincinnati Reds | Joey Votto who? | 1 |
| 5 | Atlanta Braves | Everyone seems to forget about the Braves but bad idea as 64-47 on season is 3rd best in NL. | 6 |
| 6 | Detroit Tigers | Cabrera & Prince Fielder are the best hitting tandem in MLB. Trailing in the AL Central by just a game. | 12 |
| 7 | Los Angeles Angels | Prior to calling up Mike Trout the Halos were 6-14; now 4th best record in MLB. Pujols is raking. | 4 |
| 8 | Los Angeles Dodgers | Additions of Victorino, Blanton, Ramirez & League & these are not the same Dodgers. .500 team on the road is an issue. | 8 |
| 9 | San Francisco Giants | Bullpen is a problem & will get exposed eventually. | 10 |
| 10 | Chicago White Sox | Chris Sale is being hailed as Justin Verlander's mini-me. | 11 |
| 11 | Pittsburgh Pirates | McCutchen is incredible & Burnett is having a CY Young season. | 7 |
| 12 | Baltimore Orioles | In 2011 Orioles had 16 less wins (44) on August 10; this season they have 60 & aren't going anywhere. Sending a statement to Yankees. | 13 |
| 13 | Tampa Bay Rays | Welcome back Evan Longoria & watch out AL East. | 16 |
| 14 | St. Louis Cardinals | 7-3 in last 10 & reigning champs are just 1.5 games behind Pirates. | 14 |
| 15 | Oakland A's | Can anyone say Moneyball? | 9 |
| 16 | Arizona Diamondbacks | 4-games back in NL West & making a go of it. Keep eye on D-backs in NL West. D-backs can win home or away too. | 15 |
| 17 | Toronto Blue Jays | Lost 8 of last 10 games & 12-games back in division. | 17 |
| 18 | Cleveland Indians | 11-game losing streak is finally over but it hurt this Tribe. | 20 |
| 19 | Boston Red Sox | Lost 7 of last 10 & something hasn't given yet in Beantown still. | 19 |
| 20 | Milwaukee Brewers | 18-33 on the road; maybe Brew Crew fans can start to travel with team in 2013? | 24 |
| 21 | New York Mets | RA Dickey is best thing to happen to the Mets. Fans got a tad ahead of themselves but at least things are better. | 18 |
| 22 | Minnesota Twins | Too soft a group...always were too damn nice/hurt to take seriously. | 26 |
| 23 | Miami Marlins | Reyes hitting streak is the only positive thing to come out of Miami. | 21 |
| 24 | Philadelphia Phillies | Is the Phanatic getting put on waivers? | 23 |
| 25 | Seattle Mariners | 15.5 games back & King Felix deserves better opportunity to win. Blame the ownership for this team sucking again. | 22 |
| 26 | Kansas City Royals | Bats have least strikeouts in MLB with 689 & rank 7th in BA with .267. Owner needs to pay for pitching in 2013. | 28 |
| 27 | San Diego Padres | Currently on 4-game winning streak but who cares. | 27 |
| 28 | Chicago Cubs | Currently on an 8-game losing streak but still rebuilding right? | 25 |
| 29 | Colorado Rockies | Pitching has given up 579 earned runs, 145 homers & posting a 5.42 ERA. | 29 |
| 30 | Houston Astros | 1-9 in last 10 games; 36-wins on the season in NL so image how the Astros will do in AL next season. | 30 |
