MLB Power Rankings: July 27 and Yankees are barely on top

The New York Yankees had a rough time on the West Coast but even after going 2-5 and losing A-rod, the Bombers still own the best record in the AL.

What the Yankees do now share is the best record in baseball, as the Washington Nationals also have a 59-39 record after their win over the Brewers last night 8-2.

The reason the Yankees are ranked at the top is because the AL is overall stronger and the Nationals looked out matched when the two played a month ago.

Other teams making huge strides are the Detroit Tigers who are now just a half-game behind the Chicago White Sox in the AL. And in the NL, the Cincinnati Reds are currently on a seven game win streak but the Pittsburgh Pirates stay hot on their trail.

As for the Rangers, seems that Texas needs some help in their starting rotation or else things could get tough. I am sure that owner Nolan Ryan publicly calling out slugger Josh Hamilton for carrying a .188 BA for June and July didn’t help too much either. But hey if anyone has earned that right it is Ryan.

Ok enough of my blabbing, as now you can stop wondering where your team ranked this week and see for yourself.

New York YankeesGetting swept 4-game by the A's; losing A-rod and adding Ichiro all in the last week but still have best record in AL.1
Washington Nationals15-7 in July & have owned NL East thus far. Own a 3.20 ERA which is best in the Bigs.2
Cincinnati RedsHas 2nd best ERA in baseball, with a 3.28. Have a 7 game winning streak & a run differential of +60. Reds are cruising.3
Texas RangersNolan Ryan called out Josh Hamilton publically regarding his .188 BA he is carrying for June & July.4
Detroit Tigers8-2 in last 10 games; Traded for SP Sanchez & 2B Infante to fill holes as they fight it out with the White Sox for the AL Central.10
San Francisco GiantsPlaying great baseball but NL West is going to be a dog fight.5
Los Angeles AngelsAfter going 17-9 in June, only 11-10 in July & need to do better to catch Texas. Team has enough talent to take the AL West that is for sure. 7
Pittsburgh Pirates2.5 behind Reds & need to improve their 22-26 road record.8
Atlanta BravesAdding a starter to inconsistent rotation is key for pennant race.9
Los Angeles DodgersTraded for All-Stars/3B Hanley Ramirez & SP Wandy Rodriguezu00c9very solid but Dodgers still in 2nd place in NL West.11
Chicago White Sox4-6 in last 10 & Tigers caught up in division. Heading to Arlington for 4-games with Rangers this weekend. Youkilis is back in line-up so not to worry.6
Oakland A's16-3 in July but will Beane make a trade & go for it? These A's are on fire & have some pitching yet to unveil but the hitting is a problem. Expect a reality check soon.15
Baltimore OriolesAdded bat of Jim Thome; lost ace Jason Hammel to DL. The later could be an issue.12
Tampa Bay RaysSellers or buyers? Rays are better team but have been just so injured this season. Still 2.5 games out of WC.17
St. Louis CardinalsWon't go away & schedule includes Cubs & Rockies over next week so time to make up some ground.14
Toronto Blue JaysSnapped A's 7-game winning streak but are still 10-games out in AL East. Have .500 record which is not bad considering how injury riddled 2012 has been. Bummer.18
Arizona DiamondbacksPlaying much better & this team loves the 2nd-half so keep an eye on the D-back for the net few weeks.20
New York MetsPoor Mets fans were finally excited about something but so far 2nd half is a disaster, as posting an 1-11. 13
Cleveland IndiansAnother confused are the Tribe buyers or sellers? Life of a Tribe just a game over .500 & 3.5 out of the AL WC race.19
Boston Red SoxOne-game below .500 but weekend series vs. Yankees could help get Boston out of the AL basement.16
Milwaukee BrewersBraun is guilty of having another stellar season but Brew Crew not so much.21
Miami MarlinsGood from far but far from has been a mess in Miami and having a fire sale.23
Seattle MarinersTraded their star to the Yankees for they M's know something about Ichiro that no else does? Or are they just giving up on everything?25
Philadelphia PhilliesWhen is the Eagles first game again?22
San Diego PadresNot selling as going to build around Quentinu00c9can someone tell me what is going on in Petco, please?27
Minnesota TwinsSell Francisco Liriano and Denard Span cause it ain't happening in 2012.28
Kansas City RoyalsNeed pitching & promise you this team will contend, maybe not in 2012 but certainly in 2013.24
Chicago CubsRyan Dempster drama continues.26
Colorado RockiesPitching has allowed most earned runs (500) & has worst ERA (5.27) in the Majors.29
Houston AstrosWorst record in baseball with just 34 wins.30
