The Yankees opened up the stadium with a ring and a win.
The Angels lost 7-5, but bringing Hideki Matsui was all the fans cared about.
Saving the best for last, Matsui was the last player to get his ring. Appropriately so, out of respect for what he brought to the Yankees during his seven seasons and his MVP performance in the World Series.
It was hard to believe #55 in another uniform, but it allowed the fans to demonstrate their gratitude and respect.
Baseball is a business that you learn to accept, but that explanation does not always seem fair. Matsui developed a relationship with the fans, and to have our Godzilla snatched up by the hated Angels broke hearts.
To say goodbye to Matsui was a blessing, giving some closure to such a sudden break-up with the finest of gentlemen.Whatever the future holds for Matsui, Yankee fans across the board wish him the best, and let him know there is a home for him in the Bronx, always.
Hideki Matsui is momentous to the Yankees organization, it’s fans and the entire city. It was truly an honor.
