New York Yankee fans: You want another reason to hate Curt Schilling

Earlier this week during an interview with Conan O’Brian, retired Diamondback and Red Sox pitcher Curt Schillingdecided to speak his

mind about the 2013 Hall-of-Fame ballot, which his name will be on for the first time.

Along with Schilling as a newbie candidate are Roger Clemens, Barry Bonds, Craig Biggio, Mike Piazza, Sammy Sosa, David Wells, Kenny Lofton, and Julio Franco.

Conan asked Schilling what his opinion was on fellow candidates who were lined to steroids, specifically Sosa, Bonds and Clemens possible induction into the HOF.

Schilling started by saying:

“I think you get rid of [their records].” And continued to voice his opinion:

“If you cheated, you’re done. If characters and morals don’t matter, then I’m not sure what it stands for.”

Ok, so if Mr. Schilling really means what he says about all HOF candidates linked to PED/Steroids records should be thrown out, than should the voters not take into consideration his 2004 and 2007 World Series Championships? New York Yankees: 2012 do you know the possibilities

New York Yankees

The New York Yankees head into a 2012 season that could very well be the most important in franchise history, as losing might all of sudden not an option more than ever.

What am I getting at here?

As New York might have a chance to do something that no other city has ever done. That is to be crowned champions in all four professional sports leagues, the NFL, NHL, NBA and MLB in the same year.

Look I know a lot of things need to happen for this four-part scenario to unfold, but one has already won, two others are heading in the right direction and the Yankees would be the last piece of the puzzle.

Reality is when the clock struck midnight to start the New Year, just thinking about this happening would be considered outlandish, even though the Giants had fought their way into the NFL playoffs by this point.

This whole scenario was just still a pipe dream, but I couldn’t shake it out of my brain.

Then on February 5th, the Giants proved even themselves wrong by winning the Super Bowl XLVI.

So, now the most improbable New York team had won, and it set the bar high because if the Giants could figure out how to become winners as a team than the other three had no excuses.

Now the Rangers were cruising right along, and looking like the best team in the NHL, but the Knicks looked not so good. No longer just a mess, but a mess with All-Stars who couldn’t get it done in MSG. Continue reading ‘New York Yankees: 2012 do you know the possibilities’ »

New York Yankees: Jeter Infection Spreads to Super Bowl

The Yankees captain Derek Jeter has always been quite the heartthrob, and not with just the ladies.

It seems that the Jeter bug has hit Indianapolis this week, as not one but both Super Bowl XLVI quarterbacks admitted to having a serious man-crush on El Capitan.

Yes, that would be one Patriots Tom Brady and one Giants Eli Manning.

The two QB’s took time to slip in some words of absolute admiration for Jeter during their media day this past Tuesday.

Both Super Bowl bound guys are taken; Manning is married to his very attractive college girlfriend; and Brady goes home to Gisele…need I say more?

The New York Daily News quoted Brady, just two days ago, as saying:

“You see someone who plays the game the way you think it needs to be played, like Derek Jeter. I love the way he plays the game.”

Boston fans must have thrown up; and than swallowed it rehashing Brady’s Yankee hat wearing days and further proof that it was no accident. Continue reading ‘New York Yankees: Jeter Infection Spreads to Super Bowl’ »

New York Yankees: Not Today It is Tebow Time

ESPN’s First Take host Skip Bayless, whom I adore, has been in Denver Broncos QB Tim Tebow‘s corner since day one.

Admittedly, I have not been on the Tebow bandwagon yet and still am not aboard, but you cannot deny that this guy is inspiring to watch. Just read this recent Tebow article on FOX SPORTS that just confirms this might be some divine intervention from above.

Here is a brilliant rap video made by ESPN’s First Take talented crew, about this young man who has been become a national icon already:

New York Yankees take note….

“All He Does Is Win.”

New York Yankees: Stop Blaming, Start Winning And Shut-Up

New York Post - Back Cover- 12/20/11

Stop blaming, start winning and shut-up…. is a lesson both the New York Giants and Jets could learn from the New York Yankees.

Both the Jets and Giants represent New York and the NFL, but these professionals act more like spoiled brats who just talk the talk, but can’t seem to walk the walk.

Have you ever heard a Yankees publicly blame his teammates; or whine about lack of fan support after a loss?

Did anyone overhear Derek Jeter & Co. complaining about Alex Rodriguez’s playoff choke after the Yankees lost ALDS Game 5 this past season?

No, and even if Jeter thought it, as A-rod did blow three series-winning at-bats, it would have been for a passing second because the Yankees win and lose as a team.

See, even my mother knows that the Yankees play every game with all they got, so why can’t the Jets and Giants do the same?

Speaking as a Giants fan, what pisses me off is that the talent is clearly there, but the attitude doesn’t match-up. No one knows which Giants ‘team’ is going to show up that day. And the worst part is I don’t think the Giants players do either because they seem to give-up, instead man-up.

Look, the Giants are not alone here, as I am sure many Jets, Cowboys and Eagles fans feel the same way each week but that doesn’t excuse it.

So, this weekend other than a Giants shellacking of the Jets, I hope the game does not embarrass New York, two of the city’s loyal fan-bases and the game of football itself.

As reality is if both teams play like they did last Sunday, we are in for a turbulent four-quarters on Saturday.

NOW…. ABOUT THE G-MEN:

Let me clear one thing up, the Jets are not the Giants, just like the Mets are not the Yankees. Continue reading ‘New York Yankees: Stop Blaming, Start Winning And Shut-Up’ »

New York Yankees: Meeting CC Sabathia

Yesterday evening, thanks to the gracious PR queen Kathy Jacobson, I had the pleasure of attending a PitCCh In Foundationevent at the

Me & CC Sabathia at the MLB Fan Cave.

MLB Fan Cave, hosted by New York Yankees ace CC Sabathia and his wife Amber.

The Sabathia’s’ hosted 52 kids (hence CC dons #52) from the Columbus House clubhouse of the Madison Square Boys & Girls Club where they had dinner, mingled, took pictures and handed out iPods as presents.

Sabathia couldn’t have been more gracious a host, and let me just say that all Yankees should be very proud to have this man represent the pinstripes. Both Sabathia’s’ were so happy to be able to share not only gifts, but also themselves with these kids and it was wonderful to see.

Now, the press did ask the Yankee ace some baseball questions, and when asked if it was hard to end the 2011 season in Game 5 of the ALDS Sabathia had this response:

“It was for me. Winning the World Series the first year, losing the ALCS the second year and then being put out in the first round, really made me step back this offseason. You want to win. You want that parade. You want that at the end. It just made me really step back and look at some things that I could do better to help our team win.” Continue reading ‘New York Yankees: Meeting CC Sabathia’ »

MLB: Steroids Are Still Baseball’s Dirty Mistress

When ESPN reported the news that 2011 NL MVP Ryan Braun had tested positive for PEDs (performance enhancing drugs) it reminded me that baseball still had a dirty mistress.

Ryan Braun

Image via Wikipedia

I knew back on January 11, 2010 that MLB commissioner Bud Selig might have spoken too soon about the end of the steroid era, when he told NY Time’s Mike Schmidt:

“The use of steroids and amphetamines amongst today’s players has greatly subsided and is virtually nonexistent, as our testing results have shown.”

That statement was right after slugger Mark McGuire omission, which sparked me to write an article naming PEDs Baseball’s Dirty Mistress. As Selig seem to be living in denial, when in essence he should have done more years ago.

For now, Braun is maintaining his innocence and plans on appealing the standard 50-game suspension through an arbitration hearing.

So, commenting too much further on the matter is somewhat unfair, as we haven’t heard the entire story yet.

The only fact that ESPN confirmed is that Braun took a urine test during the October playoffs, and was informed before the end of the month of his failed results. The test found elevated levels of testosterone that was later confirmed to not be of the natural kind, meaning that Braun did not produce the testosterone, and that it came from outside his body.

This means that MLB darn well knew they were handing the 2011 NL MVP Award to a player who had just failed a drug test; and in turn that player, Braun, felt no guilt accepting the season’s biggest honor.

Braun had this to say after he was announced the MVP winner:

“I’m not going to pretend like I wasn’t anxious or nervous because I was. I was obviously thrilled, excited. It’s honestly difficult to put into words how much this means to me.”

My question is how big an ego does this guy have? Continue reading ‘MLB: Steroids Are Still Baseball’s Dirty Mistress’ »
